Default This is what the Ultimate Fighter 5 should do

After TUF 4 the comeback, they should use the UFC fighter angle once more to help create a champion for the LWs. They should just have 16 UFC lightweights and find a champion that way.
The Fighters that I would like to see on the show would be:
    -Sean Sherk
    -Melvin Guillard
    -Jens Pulver
    -Spencer Fisher
    -Mark Hominick
    -Kenny Florian
    -Sam Stout
    -Jorge Gurgel
    -Hermes Franca
    -BJ Penn
    -Caol Uno
    -Mat Wiman
    -Yves Edwards
    -Joe Stevenson
-Thiago Alvez is he was willing to drop
    -Duane Ludwig

There are many more LWs that could go on as well, but that would be sweet to solve the champion dispute in that fashion.

i can't see alot of those guys stooping down to that level just to get a LW belt. Come on, BJ Penn doing a reality show. i still feel the TUF franchise has run its course. the UFC should just have a multi-month tourney to find a LW champ.

How can you think that? UFC ratings are at an all time high, which in large part is due to TUF. I think the novelty will eventually wear off with its current format, but then we get Season 4, which will probably lift the UFC up even more.

It's fine if you are not a fan of the show, because lord knows there is a ton of ****ty fighters in it, but I don't know how you can say it has run its course when it is still on its way up.

This is also my first post, so feel free to rip into me if you wish

However it gets done... I'm all for a LW tourney. That'd be some exciting, quality stuff for sure.

I kind of feel the same as Crashti. I am just not interested in TUF anymore. The first season was good but it's kind of gone downhill. I know they are only doing it still because of the money but once the reality tv craze is over so will TUF. I watched like 2 episodes of TUF 3 and the last half of TUF 2. So for me personally my interest has gone down drastically. I would be much happier with a weekly show where they show the undercards of the fights we don't get to see on the PPV's and UFN.

I really dig that idea, I don't see BJ doing it because he feels it like everything else is below him, but that would be a great way to settle it.

Either that or an old school one night tournament with the contestants being the winners of all the recent LW bouts

Oh, I agree that with the Reality TV craze goes downhill, so will TUF, I just think it won't be anytime soon.

The UFC is booming right now, and anything with the UFC nam attached to it is going to be a hit. The novelty will eventually wear off, as fads always do, but I still enjoy the show.

I would be happy with weekly undercards as well or tourney's, but TUF is a money maker right here and now, and it will be for at the very least, the immediate future.

Damn, that weekly undercard show is a good idea. I agree with everyone else, TUF just isn't interesting anymore. The fact that I never really cared for Ortiz and Shamrock hasn't been a draw for me since the first few UFC's.

I like the tourney idea for a LW belt as well. That will get the ball rolling, and still leave a lot of good fights for future ppv's.

Jonny might recall that I have said quite a few times that a weekly two-hour fight-card based UFC television program would be a huge hit. But, I think that TUF will be around for at least a few more years. The Reality TV craze is quite huge. It has, in one form or another (including game shows), been around since the very beginning of television. That is why I think that the UFC decided on a Reality TV concept.

What I would like, would be for them to have a two-hour weekly program with regular live fights, and a TUF show that is no longer based on Reality TV. I want a TUF show that has one decent fight per show, maybe two, with up-and-coming fighters. That would be the last half-hour of the show. The first half-hour should be a MMA television magazine style documentary about MMA. Each week they could spend ten minutes on a single fighter, and then ten minutes on a fighting system or MMA training school.

And hour TV show has, on average, 42 minutes of time to fill. The rest of that hour is for commercials. Ten minutes for a spotlight on a single fighter and ten minutes for a MMA fighting system or school would leave about 22 minutes for one or two fights. The winners on the show could later move on to UFN or PPV events.

    Them's some good ideas!

I would love that type of format, and really, that would be a smart business move by Dana. People are craving UFC like never before, and would absorb it like a child's brain.

I, personally, would love to see a PPV event with the best of Pride vs the best of UFC. Make it a clash of the leagues type thing. I know there are different rules, but they should be able to adapt fairly easily.

That, my friend, is a pipe dream we all share. The two organizations have too much invested and too much to lose in that event. I mean, your champions would lose a lot of credibility after losing to another organization, and that would invalidate the entire weight class that takes a loss.

That is most likely true. I have always wanted promotions to have joint events and to create a unified championship class much like in boxing where a fighter would hold one, two, or even three championships in a single weight class. Of course, this would be difficult. If Fedor won both the PRIDE FC heavyweight title and the UFC heavyweight title, then he would have to defend both belts within both promotions. MMA fighters, on average, simply do not fight enough for that. The scheduale would be extremely hard to keep up with in general.

Yup, I know it will never come true, but a man can dream, can't he?

    *cries*

Sub, yeah, the physical requirements that would take would be mind boggling. These guys would have to fight at least double what they do right now.

Still, it would be so dam sweet if someone could step up and go for cross-league belts.
