Zuffa strongarms Sherdog (yet again)
The linked video says it all.. Dana kicked them out of an event that was open to the general public.. and then fell back on the 'oh you need media credentials' but have refused to grant them credentials for quite some time. Pretty low move from Dana, esp after he was on sherdog after the TUF 3 finals with a short interview and seemingly cordial, proclaiming 'we're back on sherdog, bitches'.

Let's be fair here. It wasn't Dana that asked them to leave. The directive may have come from him and it may not have, but the person that asked them to leave wasn't Dana. And they weren't kicked out either. They were just told to turn the camera off.

"UFC president Dana White, who said he ordered Wenk to remove Sherdog.com"
The wording is questionable as to if they were actually removed after the camera went off or if remove simply pertained to the camera in itsself.

In the video you can hear her ask them to turn the camera off. She doesn't ask them to leave. And the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. UFC.com posts their own video of the weigh ins and I can understand why they wouldn't want Sherdog to tape it. It's not like they are depriving the public from access to the event.

Yeah I am with Exit on this one. I am not a big fan of the UFC's 'media blackout' but they do have a point on this one.

This sucks because Sherdog's reporters get my views over UFC.com's media team any day. Those guys sound like amateurs in their interviews. The sound and video is getting a little better but they still suck.
I just think it's stupid because it's just the weighins. If the UFC were charging for us to watch the weigh in video and interviews then I could see why it would be a bigger deal but it's not like they are losing revenue. I watch all the interviews available anyway.

Exactly my point Jonny. If you're working for the UFC, you don't want to lose hits on your website because people are going to sherdog to view the same thing you have available on your website.

I can see that side of the fence. I guess I am just coming from the MMA fan and not just the UFC fan side. They definitely don't lose any hits from me. I just can't see people going man should I watch the UFC.com interview or the Sherdog interview like it is a one time shot. But I do see the point but I won't agree with the decision and it still sucks.

Yeah, it's the way I would do it as well if I was running the UFC.
There is no reason to let another site show pics and videos of the weigh-in when your own site is doing the same thing.
It's a minor thing, but the UFC is trying to get as many hits as possible I guess.

Personally I think in this case Dana is a smart business man. He piggybacked off of Sherdog's coverage the last couple of years which did nothing but help his origanization gain momentum. Now that the UFC mania has really began to catch on he does not need their free publicity and would rather have UFC.com be the one stop shop for all things UFC.

weigh ins are big events and i can really understand the UFC wanting to have a stranglehold on video footage. i personally avoid the UFC website like the plague, its alot better than it was but it never tells the whole story. by having to visit the UFC website for weigh in footage the UFC can gain more advertising dollars by using increased web hits to lure in potential advertisers. MMA is now big business with alot of competition. the UFC is trying to protect its large share.

So you think it's a good thing that Sherdog helped the UFC and then the UFC just says "We used you and now we don't need you anymore, shoo fly"
That's forgetting the people that made you who you are and that IS NOT good business!!

I think it is bs that they escorted them out of the public event. Sorry that doesn't explain protecting their investments and website hits. Sure turning off the cameras is fine. Whatever I can deal with having a less than stellar product compared to Sherdogs multimedia team. But it does seem to be a case of strong arm. Dana White is slowly becoming Vinny Mac of the MMA world.

i don't think he's saying its a good thing. the sad truth is, that is business today. it does'nt matter anymore if someone did something good for you in the past. Sherdog and the internet is one of the biggest reasons why the UFC managed to survive, however that was under the ownership of SEG. alot has changed since Zuffa bough the name rights to UFC.

Yeah I do not thing it was a good thing, but like Crashsti said that is business today. I mean I don't know what kind of business plan Sherdog has but they had to see it coming as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Sherdog's post fight interviews slowly become a thing of the past. Zuffa could limit fighter interactions with 'competing' companies within their contracts.

Sherdog still treats everyone like family which is always a good thing, Zuffa definately does'nt share the same family ideals.
