Various bits of UFC news.
Sherdog's Greg Savage was in Vegas last night to cover UFN 5, and he came back with the following tidbits of information:
Georges St. Pierre (Pictures) will finally get his chance for redemption on September 23 when rematches Matt Hughes (Pictures) at the Anaheim Pond for UFC 63.
Chuck Liddell (Pictures) vs. Tito Ortiz (Pictures) II is tentatively scheduled for Super Bowl weekend 2007. This mega-bout hinges on Liddell retaining his title when he rematches Renato Sobral (Pictures) in August, and Ortiz taking out arch-rival Ken Shamrock (Pictures) on July 8.
UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin (Pictures) hopes to make his return to the cage on October 14, when UFC 64 is set for the Mandalay Bay Arena. It is not known whether his first fight back will be with newly anointed UFC legend (on the Internet anyway) Anderson Silva or another opponent.
Coming off a long hiatus, Zuffa may want to let Franklin knock a little ring rust off before tangling with “The Spider.” They may also want to keep Silva active and get him another fight to help build for the eventual title showdown.
Justin Levens (Pictures) told me he was retiring following his knockout loss to Jorge Santiago (Pictures). It was Levens third consecutive defeat after opening his career with seven victories.
You can read his whole article here: http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles.asp?n_id=4882

GSP vs Hughes should be awesome, I don't really have a rooting interest either way though.
Tito and Chuck for SB weekend makes a ton of sense... business wise.
Rich vs the legendary Silva will obviously be awesome. Rich hopefully will be healed up by october and 'the spider' is a cute little halloween name. Good thinkin Dana/Joe.
Levens ehh. Nice try vs ET. Have a good life budd.

I'm glad Jorge Santiago KO'd Levens. I wish that they had shown that match rather than that LnP BS Evans-Bonnar fight.

I think that Nathan should definitely get a title shot before Silva. One fight against Leben is hardly enough to get a title shot already. Zuffa needs to stop rushing into big name fights because then the loser loses name power and they fizzle out faster which sucks in the long run. They definitely need to get a ranking system in place

Koscheck is next in line for Franklin's belt. He can get a tune up match against Silva though. I wouldn't mind that

So wait.... If it does not go as expected and Ken Shamrock BEATS ortiz. Would he get a shot at Liddel instead?

I doubt it. Either Tito would be forced to have another fight or two, or they'll find another LHW to contend for the title. Forrest Griffin maybe? He's become a crowd favourite and other then the Tito loss, his record has been decent.

Tito's current contract stipulates that if he wins his first two fights, the third will be a title shot. It's not about the winner of Ortiz-Shamrock II gets Liddell. I fully expect Ken to retire whether he wins or loses.

Gawd no. Forrest Griffin is good but still new sorta, and i'd hate to see him fed to a monster like Chuck.
Chuck would probabley do to Forrest what Rich Frankin did to Nate Quarry

So then if he LOSES second fight to Ken, no title shot?
And really if he loses to a near-retirement Ken shamrock. He does not deserve to fight Chuck. In that situation choosing between the two, i'd rather see Shamrock face Chuck.
Edit: Actually i change my mind, seeing Chuck tottally KO Tito AGAIN would be quite amusing

That's my understanding. When Tito and Dana were working out the contract, Tito felt he already deserved a shot at the title, and Dana's comeback was that if he won a "Tito's back!" fight and Shamrock-Ortiz II, he could have it.

I suppose the idea of having GSP vs Hughes in Montreal fell through? That'd be a shame, I'm sure the fans in Montreal would have rocked the house.

forrest vs chuck would be like starwars, apprentice vs master, but the ending would be like episode 3...
the only way shamrock beats tito is if dana ties him up in a chair in the middle of the octagon and slips ken a pair of brass knuckles...
after that chuck will tee off on tito's head...left, right left, right, right, right, right.....

I agree....I dont see how there is ANY way he is even close to at title shot....unless going to a decision with Dave Menne shoots you straight up the ladder to #1 contender.

x2, LOL, no way should Kos get a title shot, nor does he deserve one, nor would he really stand a chance against Rich at this point in time, IMHO...

It would be an absolute slaughter. I really think there's a short list of 185 lb'ers on the planet who have the tools to take out Rich Franklin, and Koscheck is nowhere near that list.

Koscheck needs to rack up about 10 more wins in the WW division before getting a shot in the 185 lb. division.
Chuck vs. Tito II- It will be better than most expect (if it even happens). I'm kinda expecting a Babalu vs. Tito fight for the title and then a Chuck vs. Tito II regardless of who has the belt.
Hughes vs. GSP II- Hughes may knock a lot of people off the GSP bandwagon. It's still his belt until he loses.
Rich vs. Silva- I think Silva definitely deserves a shot at the title, but it wouldn't hurt to give Marquardt a shot at Rich first. Rich needs to have another fight before stepping into the octagon with The Spider. That dude is too quick.

You'll have to be more obvious next time. Maybe use a smiley or something
