i have been lurking around these forums for a while and joined about a week ago and i really like it here but i have a question regarding the rules.
in your rules it says "No fighter bashing of any kind. This includes referees. We expect all members to show respect for the amount of hard work, time, and effort it takes to be a professional fighter. We understand if you dislike a fighter and voice factual information that you disagree with, but we will absolutely not tolerate comments such as this fighter "is a bum" or "a fat loser". Please show more respect for fighters who lay it all on the line to step into a ring or octagon." and "No cursing or verbally attacking/harassing another member for any reason. If you are having an issue with a member, let a mod know and the situation will be handled accordingly." but i have seen some people doing those things and not getting banned. is it just becuase nobody has seen them or what? i am just asking because i dont think it is fair and the forums havent been as good lately as they were when i first started reading them and i think it may have something to do with rules not being inforced by the fight forum staff admins. just my two cents.

It's just that the moderators are a little better than most other forums who simply ban one small infraction.
Most of the time a Moderator here can PM that member and put the fear of God in them, and that member usually shapes up or later is banned.
Other forums have half ass moderators who just ban for stupid infractions.

Other forums have half ass moderators on a power trip who drop the ban-hammer for so much as looking the wrong way of an infraction.
to me that's chicken ****.

Well it could be that we just haven't seen whatever posts you are talking about or we could have seen it and not thought it was worthy of a ban. Usually unless it is a major infraction a member wont be instantly banned, they will get warnings instead. If you see a post that you think should be looked at then report it.

its because I don't spend all day looking around for infractions or wrong posts.. it is the responsibility of other members to also alert us to said situations.

Use the little triangle button in the bottom left corner of the post. It sends a e-mail to the mods.

Yeah but, I've triangled plenty, with little effect. I know perhaps the mods didn't see the post as being as much of an infraction as I did, or perhaps they just pm'd the fools in question, but... in the short time I've been here there has been a big change in the amount of bad, argumentative posts, I could easily point out the culprits, but they are still here for some reason. SeanCannon and JenJen where better imo, at least they where funny.
I get it that more members means more asshats, but thats what the army of mods is for.
Of course I'm still grateful for the cool forum.

I don't have the time to look at every single post in every single thread 24/7.
That being said..name goes here:
The triangle button sends an email I believe, and if you have used it, my spam filter must catch it. Just send me a PM.

Ive gotten most if not all of the emails sent about threads / posts being reported. Most of the time, after a post is reported, you guys dont see what happens between the mods and that person. Not everything is deserving of a ban / infraction and the mods dont post "i took care of this guys for this reason" posts. For this reason, I can see how some might think that no one is taking a look at these threads but thats not the case. I spend a lot of time in school or at home with my son and am on FF more than once a day just checking things out. Thats one reason my post count has dropped.
Also, bear in mind that not every post that is reported is as big of an infraction as the person reporting it thought it to be. The mods are working and doing out best to keep things running smoothly around here and do appreciate the help we get by you guys reporting posts. Like aikai says, its just too much to go in and read every single thread of every post just to look for possible infractions. If we come across them, we deal with them. Otherwise, the system here on FF is designed so that the members take an active role in keeping the community clean and friendly.

Well sometimes a single post by itself, doesn't cross the line, but it should also be taken into account how often it happens.

If one post by itself doesnt break the stated and posted rules of FF, then why would 5, 10, or even 50 similar posts add up to an infraction? It either crosses the line or it doesnt.
Now, there are of course some exceptions to that and its mostly looked at on a case by case basis. My opinion is that if someone's post isn't cause for an infraction, it doesnt warrant one just because he / she has posted something similar before.
In most cases, a post either does or doesnt warrant an infraction. Its not a cumlative effect of several posts.

I made a joke about how frequently David Terrell backs out of fights. Someone new might misinterpret the rule and say that that's fighter bashing. In my opinion, there's actually a little room in there for making a joke about something true (Chuck's Nyquil-fuelled TV interview would be another applicable situation), and it's not the same as saying "Tim Sylvia doesn't deserve a UFC contract because he sucks and can't fight."
Am I wrong?

It all comes down to truth, its true terrelll has either exteme bad luck or he isnt interested in fighting anymore, calling tim sylvia a loser isnt acceptable.
just on a point jrass made "If one post by itself doesnt break the stated and posted rules of FF, then why would 5, 10, or even 50 similar posts add up to an infraction? It either crosses the line or it doesnt. "
To me this opens an excuse for people who blatently piss the forum off, argueing about the slightest thing, bashign fighters just on the line of breaking the rules, insulting members in a subtle way, hijacking threads consistantly with ******** and wasting the harmony of the forum, if they do it correctly and make sure they dont break the rules or in your case not fully stepping over the line.
we will have 50-60 posts that piss everyone off in FF and ruins the place but nothing will happen because they didnt break a rule.
examples are the coleman back to the UFC thread and the BJ hitting a cop thread.

Merge spoiler rules
Just a question:
I'm always extra careful not to post spoilers after a UFC event (unless it's in the UFC Results forum), but I just noticed that the Rules FAQ Announcement (at the top of every forum) doesn't contain these spoiler rules.
Wouldn't it help new members out to amend the Official rules with a blanket rule about spoilers and the special rules that govern the UFC and Boxing forums (and old Pride forum)?
just a thought.
