is UFC pay per view worth it?
UFC 61 had Dean stop a fight early for the second tome in a row. I started watching this sport because of bad decisions in boxing. UFC fignts were mostly finished in the ring. Dean is changing this. In the heavy weight rematch both fighters were scared to get hurt. Putting it all out there is what made the sport great, fighters holding back makes UFC boring. It sems like fighters are starting to act WWF style. What happened to respect before and after the fight, blood in the ring? Should I check out PRIDE?

buying the PPV is too much of a gamble for me. it might be the greatest UFC event of all time, or it might be the worst. I prefer to get the DVDs because they are cheaper and you can pause and rewind. it is much more convenient.

I must admit lately a growing problem is that fighters are being WAY too careful in the ring! They pose then go for a takedown, it either gets stuffed and they stand back up and pose again OR the takedown is successful they do nothing on the ground and they are stood back up again. I think the UFC should heavily consider using Yellow cards like Pride does. Yellow card=10% reduction in fighters salary just like Pride. I purchase just about ALL the UFC pay per views but $40 is nothing to me, if you could barely afford the $40 I would not get the pay per views right now because you don't know what your gonna get! UFC 61 wasn't that great at all Arlovski/Sylvia was a 5 round Photo opportunity basically and Ortiz/Shamrock was a 1:18 let down!

i agree to a point because when they announced the fights for ufc61 i said i would'nt get the ppv,but as time went on i wanted to watch some mma.so i end up gettint it but it was kind of disappointing like you said and i thought maybe i should start watching pride or what but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.another thing was ppv or the dvd is you only see the whole card if someone ends the fight early and on the dvd you get to see the whole card thats the thing i dont like but what can you do get it or not or watch something else huh.

I do buy the ppv from time to time but the dvds are the best way to go becouse of the rewind and slow motion part.
Just find some fighters you like and if they are worth paying 40 bucks for YOU to watch them, then check it out, go for it it, but if not wait till they are some on that you want to see. Just don't count out the under cards becouse almost everytime they prove to be some of the best fights.

I tend to order them when there is more than one fight i want to see. The last few ppvs have had good cards but some fights have been just crappy, that ortiz fight was like a don king fight done in 15 sec. the TS fight was good but I was more interested i nthe undercards like joe stevenson and some of the others. Depends on the fights though. also get some people over or go to a bar best way to save on the cash. I will get a room at a bar and get about 20 people in the and charge 10 bucks and that will cover the beer too same at the house.

I watch all the MMA I can, it's never a waste of money for me (although with my training partners its never over $5 each). Its a live and unscripted event so it's always a gamble. I really like KOTC, but its hit and miss, PRIDE has some SERIOUS mis-matches, but I'm addicted like a crack addict. I gotta watch it!

Even though UFC 61 was a lackluster PPV,IMO it still beats watching soccer or Everybody loves Raymond. Not every event is going to be as spectacular as Fedor/CroCop,and not every boxing match is going to be Ali/Frasier.We have to accept this inevitabilty and keep watching.MMA is still the greatest sport on the planet, and I'm not going to stop watching because one PPV didn't live up to my expectations.

Agreed. I enjoyed the Neer/Burkman fight a lot. I was really looking forward to that one. As a matter of fact, even the Stevenson fight I was interested in seeing and that was by far the bloodiest slip and slide fight I've seen.
Moral of the story, as so eloquently put: "Just don't count out the under cards becouse almost everytime they prove to be some of the best fights."

And thats where they get me again, I buy the DVD so that I can see the undercard fights that I missed on the PPV. They are smart aren't they?

the DVD's also have the behind the scenes feature and yes, the undercard fights. PPV's are just too inconvient for me. i am always at work and there is no way i can take time off every month to buy a UFC PPV.

I regard the UFC PPVs with the same as any other kind of PPV: Wait till it airs first and judge from what you hear by others/reviewers/recaps/etc, wheither or not it was worth a crap.
For example Matt Hughes Vs Royce Gracie and or Ortiz Vs Shamrock. Both appeared to be highly-antisipated "Blockbuster" matches, eh? Yet both turned out to be: Ultimate Fighting Crap-o-rama instead. Neither worth the $40 for the PPV, nor the months of build-up beforehand.
Or Sylvia Vs Arlovski 3: The "We're both too damned scared/gun-shy to do anything but plink away at eachother for 25 minutes and HOPE the judges deceide in our favor" match.
