Perfered fighting style if you entered the octagon
If you could only train one type of fighting before entering the octagon what would it be. I been taking jiu-jitsu for a few weeks now and of course its really good but im comming to think that mui thai (i think i spelled it right) would be better.

This has been kinda of debated to death but going in with just one style you will lose. The word "style" now has come to mean a fighters preferred method of carrying out his fight but you have to be prepared for anything.

For one style I'd say wrestling.
-A fighter who is only well versed in striking will probably always lose on the ground.A wrestler can take him down maintain dominant position and land a few blows.
-A BJJ guy can win,but IMO he won't take the wrestler down. Thus he will have to work from is back.Which is fine for a BJJ guy,but a good wrestler can still defend alot of submissions with his superior strength and position. It's hard to sink in a submission when your being punched in the face.Unless your name is Minotauro.

Your question is why UFC is what it is today. UFC was created so people from all different fighting backgrounds could step in there and represent, and the truth could come out about the best fighting style. BJJ(Brazilian Jui Jitsu) was conveyed as the best through Royce Gracie until the wrestlers, boxers, mui thai's, etc. started learning BJJ on top of what they know.
But the best amateur answer I can give you is start out wrestling. If you really want to throw then I think you need to learn wrestling for take down defense(Chuck Liddel!!! believe it or not) that way the BJJ guys will have trouble imposing their will on you.

I take BJJ too, along with other styles but I wouldn't try to go tourney style with someone trying to punch, kick and bite me either.

if you could only study one style of fighting for mma I would have to go with bjj. For the streets I would rather know muay thai or kickboxing as I sure as heck don't want to be trying for an armbar and have the guys friend come and kick me in the face.

If had to choose one style only for the UFC or other MMA organizations, I would be a striker (Muah Thai, I think that is the correct spelling), but have to work on my take down defense against, a wrestler or a bjj. That in my opionion you have a chance in winning in the UFC or other MMA organizations , cause once a wrestler or bjj gets you on the ground then a strikers' strike is most likely ineffective and you are in the grapples/wrestlers world of either GnP or submissions.

I'd have to learn wrestling first and foremost. That would give me the best chance to win if I only had one discipline to work with. After that, I would pick BJJ.

But the question was if you had to choose one technique. The wrestler isn't a striker. I'd choose BJJ. It is defense and offense. Who was the most dominant pure wrestler--using only wrestling in the UFC? No, I can't think of one either. Who was the dominant BJJ using only BJJ? Royce Gracie. He did pretty well using that alone. Can't work anymore, but when we saw single styles being utilized early on, BJJ was king. No offense, please. I have taken boxing, karate and Judo.

Dan Severn maybe?
The question is faulty, because wrestling has no finishing moves. You have to incorporate something else like submission moves or g&p to finish the fight.

How about the Militech fighting system? It's only one system!
