I agree with you Bomber 100%. There are lots of talk about Sanchez against GSP. Matchup with Hughes right off the bat.....probally unlikely.

I just read about it.. he did mention that he would know how his body is doing by today so there ya go.
Please stop talking about Diego like he is worthy of a title shot. Just because you see him in a reality TV show doesn't mean he is worthy of a title shot. He only resently beat a decent fighter. All this talk about him fighting GSP.. is a joke. I for one would like to see him loose... put him up against GSP .. at some later point.. after he faces a few more real fighters.. like Karo.

So its Hughes Vs Penn instead of Hughes Vs GSP? That Sucks.
Its not like Penn is all that deserving, didn't he lose what was supposed to be a contenders match to GSP? Oh well.
I guess he is the next best thing to GSP though, so its ok. Would hate to see Hughes put up against someone else less worthy/formidable...

I was looking forward to the GSP / Hughes matchup as well but I will be even more excited to watch a Penn / GSP rematch as well provided Penn takes the win...which he very well could do. I think that Penn matches up a lot better against Hughes than he did with GSP and we should probably see a very good match.

Yeah he is not ready for a title shot just yet. I'd much rather see him face penn.

Just because I said it's possible he would be matched up with Diego doesn't mean I think Diego will beat him. I was expanding on the Karo treatment. Karo had a title shot then had to come back and fight Nick Thompson and then Diego. I don't see why they would treat Georges any differently.
And I agree with you Bomber. I don't see how something can be called far different when it is a pretty similar situation.

Wow, just wow...
Like a lot of other people I was really looking forward to GSP vs Hughes 2 as well because I do consider them 1-2 in the WW division. At the same time I understand - GSP is hurt - enough so that it hampers his ability and you don't go into a championship calibur fight with an injury that holds you back. No, when (and it is a question of when and not if) GSP & Hughes face off, I want them both at 100% and ready for a total war.

Heres a short article from mmaweekly with Penn's comments in it. Man, there is no shortage of confidence in this guy and with what he has done in the sport, I cant say I blame him.

I would rather see GSP... But this is okay... Not that big a deal for me. I am just hoping for a good figt..
And i a agreed completly with this comment.
Quote:
this really sucks, he deserved that title shot...im sure gsp is felling pretty bad right now ..damnit hes really unlucky and Penn is lucky to have this title shot cause he didnt deserve it...i hope Georges will be the next to fight for the WW belt against the winner of Hughes-Penn, if they wanna put sanchez against someone it must be against the loser of Hughes vs Penn
damn i was waiting for that fight since it was rumored...i hope that Hughes beat Penn and then Gsp beat hughes

i was looking forward to GSP getting his chance he really does deserve it. However BJ Penn deserves a shot to after his exit. a fully fit GSP would be better for us and him, plus this may put to bed the HUghes vs Penn Saga, before GSP has a chance to win the title for himself.

I really feel bad for GSP in this situation. You can see it in his face how bad he wants that rematch with hughes every time he talks about it. I think that GSP at 100% has a better shot of beating Hughes than anyone else in the division, including Penn. Penn beat Hughes almost 20 UFC's ago but his last few fights haven't exactly been dominate. His last 4 fights have all gone to decisions and in the two decisions he actually won he was not exactly impressive beating a couple of also-ran Gracies (puts on flame suit). I'm certainly not a Penn hater as I know he's got some mad skills, his last few fights have looked uninspired and I think if GSP wasn't injured so early in his fight with Penn that his win would've been much more impressive.
The good part about this whole thing is that we will get to see a fight that most of us has been waiting for for several years. WHo knows, if Penn pulls it off we'll eventually get to see GSP/Penn II which would also be very cool.

Wow, I have to say though, something inside says that the next WW title match will be BJ Penn vs. GSP. I like Matt Hughes, but honestly BJ is a better fighter. Matt cannot beat BJ standing up, and come ground time - and it will come - I see BJ tapping him out again. So with that said, good luck Matt, because your going to need it, BJ is not Royce Gracie.

One more point. I don't think Penn will come in lazy and out of shape. Everyone thought that Matt would beat BJ in their first fight, but lets be honest, Hughes is a great fighter, but Gomi gave Penn a harder fight. Ya I know that was a while ago and Penn's game may have been more polished. But I can't see Hughes beating Penn after he was owned by Penn in their first fight. It's almost like believing GSP would lose to Frank Trigg.

no its not.. Bj Penn is a great fighter but matt hughes has been the most dominent force in the ufc for years now, of course penn did beat him in his prime, but as time has gone by penn in my opinion has stayed at the same level or at worst got stale, hughes has went from strength to strength and i think he will crush penn

Ryoto didn't crush BJ
---> Hughes won't crush BJ.
In fact, BJ will pwn the country boy again.

Hughes went strength to strenght, against whom? Don't get me wrong, Matt Hughes is a great fighter, but his last few opponents were not exactly stiff oposition. GSP was winning that fight against Hughes before he gave him is arm, and he did give it to him - a true blemish to GSP's career, I heard it straight from his own mouth in person during a seminar. Furthermore, Penn did not squeak a win by Hughes, he dominated Hughes.
Hughes is a great fighter, but I truly think his time is done. He has two opponents who I personally believe will beat him. So come September I believe there will be a new, no sorry, the true Welter Weight Champ - who incidently never lost the belt - will take his belt back, and then lose it to GSP.
Anyhow that's my take.

I'm going with Penn again for the submission win. Hughes can get caught in subs if you watch his matches.
