My UFC 62 Picks
UFC 62
Chuck Liddell vs Renato Sobral
Record: 18-3 Record: 27-5
Pick: Chuck Liddell
Renato “Babalu” Sobral is on a 10 fight win streak but his last loss came to the hands of “The Ice Man” Chuck Liddell. Babalu is a submission fighter and Chuck Liddell is one of the hardest fighters to take down. I see Liddell landing some hard shots, keeping it on the feet and break Renato Sorbal’s spirit.
Forrest Griffin vs Stephan Bonnar
Record: 12-3 Record: 12-2
Pick: Forrest Griffin
“The American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar has a 1-1 in his last two fights. The first figth was a razor edge decision win over Keith Jardine and his second unimpressive fihgt was a loss to Rashad Evans. Forrest Griffin on the other hand is coming off of a lose to Tito Ortiz which was controversial. I see Griffin improving and Bonnar still in Griffins shadow.
Cheick Kongo vs Christian Wellisch
Record: 17-2-1 Record: 7-1
Pick: Cheick Kongo
Cheick Kongo is coming off a big win over Gilbert Aldana in his UFC debut, winning by TKO (Doctors Stoppage). Should be a good slugfest, im giving Kongo the edge.
Hermes Franca vs Jamie Varner
Record: 15-5 Record: 9-0
Pick: Hermes Franca
Jamie Varner might have 9 wins but most to all were to fighters with terrible fight records. Hermes Franca was once the top Lightweight in the world and now he’s coming off of a 5 fight winning streak.
Josh Neer vs Nick Diaz
Record: 17-4-1 Record: 11-6
Pick: Nick Diaz
The last time Nick Diaz fought a fighter out of Miletich camp he loss a decision to Joe Riggs, but this time I believe he will take advantage of this possible last opportunity in the UFC (good thing he wasn’t in TUF 4). Neer wasn’t the same aggressive fighter at UFC 61 that he has been in the past. Diaz has to, has to come back in this fight.
Wes Combs vs Wilson Gouveia
Record: 12-1 Record: 6-4
Pick: Wes Combs
One word. Gassed! Wilson Gouveia had a great first round against Keith Jardine but gassed out and ended up losing the fight. Wes Combs was an undefeated until he hit the big show and lost to Mike Nickels at the Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale. Going to be a good stand up fight but I could look more like a lame Heavyweight fight at the end of this.
Cory Walmsley vs David Heath
Record: 10-0 Record: 7-0
Pick: Cory Walmsley
This will be a slugfest until someone goes down then transfer to a submission match. Should be a great fight between 2 UFC new comers. I think that Cory Walmsley will have the edge in this fight.
Rob MacDonald vs Eric Schafer
Record: 4-2 Record: 8-1-2
Pick: Eric Schafer
Rob MacDonald dominated Kris Rotharmel at UFN 5 but he is now taking on a submissionist that is ready for anything that MacDonald might to and do. MacDonald might have the edge on the feet but on the ground its going to Schafer.
Yushin Okami vs Alan Balcher
Record: 17-3 Record: 8-1
Pick: Yushin Okami
Another stand up fight that could end up on the ground. Both guys have good KO power but Im giving Yushin Okami the win due to his experience in MMA.
