but i love how so many people think Matt cant tap out BJ... does no one remember what he did to Royce Gracie's arm... if Royce Gracie was a normal humyn being he would have tapped out to Matt and i would never and will never but a chump like bj penn on the same lvl as Royce Gracie!

just so everyone knows i do not jock Matt Hughes i just think he is a good fighter and much better then penn... i watched that first fight 3 times the night it happened in disbelief... i was so taken back that a loser like penn could win that fight... penn has gotten better but Matt snapped and is by far the best in his weight class.... GSP and Matt 2 will be a great fight!
Royce gracie is not a good example, since in that match he fought Matt like a sad rookie and got whopped by Matt accordingly with little effort.

Does anyone remember Matt taking a solid punch? What sort of chin does he have?

Edit: Matt actually got KO'd by a knee from Jose Landi-Jons back in 2001, his only KO loss.

I have seen so many fights where I think a draw would have made the most sense, but I just don't see it happening any more.
The reason you don't see draws anymore,is because one of the three judges would actually have to call it a draw, and the other two need to give it to different fighters.
This is obviously rare with 3 or 5 rounds.

One draw I can remember actually involves BJ. And funnily enough, it was to determine the new lightweight champ, between Caol Uno and BJ. 4-man "tournament" to get a champ...
    That was comedy gold.

Yeah, I see Hughes taking Penn down, Penn working from his back for a submission but Hughes giving him nothing... nothing that is except some good GnP which forces the stoppage.

Don't you guys remember Joe Rogan saying that BJ grappled with Randy Couture and Randy had a difficult time taking him down????

A difficult time? Or couldn't? Cuz Liddell was taken down by Couture which in my mind = Couture taking BJ down relatively easy.

Couture had a difficult time. And so did GSP. So Hughes is in trouble.

When I heard this fight was gonna happen... tears started coming...
I knew BJ was gonna be the champ again.

Someone else has to remember where I heard it from.Randy said BJ was incredibly and deceptively strong. He also praised his takedown defense and said he had trouble keeping him down because of his flexibilty.

Does anyone else remember hearing about BJ and Randy rolling???

    Someone has to remember!!!!!!!

Well, before their last fight (BJ-Hughes), I remember Rogan saying, that BJ tapped Randy in training etc. I bet there have been other instances too.

Penn by submission. Penn impressed me alot when he fought against Pierre (i belived he won that one), actually all his fights i was very impressed. When BJ fought Pierre if there was one problem i saw, it was that he was too defeinsive. Notice how he wasn't gassed and not a mark on his face compared to Pierre. Saying that Pierre fought hard and pressuerized Penn, and that is what won the fight for him. But Pierre was never marked like that before. Hughes is a power house. I see this going as a standup for maybe a minute or until Hughes realises that Penn is not going to engange, he's going to drop Penn and go for ground and pound but Pennwill be very defensive and look for submission. It will get stood up and the longer it continues like this, the more confident BJ will get, drop him and sub him by rear naked chock or maybe triangle, but Hughes is very powerful and will use his strength to get out of the subs, so best bet is a rear nakid choke.

There's a pre-fight talk with Penn at UFC.com. I don't like the sound of this:

Penn has given up traditional, or as he calls it ‘professional’ training.

“I just gave up training professionally for a fight,” he said. “Either you’re a fighter, or you’re not. And every time I train professionally I just get so burned out that I don’t want to do it anymore. So I’m just gonna be in shape and train kinda like how I used to train when I won the jiu-jitsu world championships – just go there in the night, train, and go home. I’m not gonna go push myself to go running and do these thousand rounds of sparring and stuff. I fight best when I’m having a good time and after my last fight I was so burned out by the time I got there that now I’m just gonna take it easy and have fun.”

Randy Couture: I’m more of a battle of attrition, take you down, beat you up till you really don’t want to fight anymore, type of fighter

BJ Penn: It's just the wrong time to fight BJ Penn.

I don't know. I think it's going to work both ways. It's constantly mentioned with BJ that he just seems to lose interest. If he can stay motivated the entire fight that's a huge plus for him. But at the same time, against a guy like Hughes you need to be in the best shape of your life, because you know he will be. I think most would agree Hughes has the strength advantage, so even more reason Penn needs to step up his training, not slouch. It just reinforces for me why i think Hughes will win this. Hughes is the total package, Penn lately always seems to be missing something.

I believe that the match will be pretty close to what their last match was. True Matt Hughes has evolved as a fighter since then but his strategy is pretty much the same as it's always been. Takedown, GnP, Sub / TKO. That pretty much sums it up. I dont believe that Hughes striking is better than Penn's and I dont believe his ground game is anywhere near Penn's. The only things I think Hughes has over Penn is maybe conditioning, we'll have to see the night of the fight for that one however, and for sure strength. I am betting that Penn subs Hughes either in the latter parts of the first round or the early stages of the second round.

Conditioning is a HUGE factor in a 5-round fight. Penn gassed in a 3-round fight and doesn't believe in "professional training". If he can't take Hughes out in Round 1 or 2, his goose is cooked.

This is the guy everyone says will beat Matt Hughes?

I have to laugh at this. It is seriously hilarious.

Everyone says? This poll says 34% think Penn will win. The other polls I've seen put Hughes as the favourite, as do the bookies. I think a 34% chance that Penn wins is pretty reasonable. He has the tools to take Hughes out early. I don't see that it's hilarious at all.

If he doesn't come in shape, he is setting himself up for failure....Anyone can end a fight early but that doesn't mean that you don't train hard. I hope Hughes takes him in the later rounds and makes him submit.
