I don't think $12,000 covered Karo's dental.

Ha HA! I'll bet you're right. The payouts seem low, but the PPV payouts are bigger...at least for the main event.

the fighters do agree to the contracts the UFC gives them. however i do feel that $2000 is'nt really enough to fight for. i hope oneday every fighter who has a UFC match gets at least $10,000. even at that if you fight 4 times a year you'll only make $40,000, not all that glamorous really. its pretty obvious why fighters are a rare breed.

Yeh but after training expenses and taxes it's nothing. They do it proffesionaly so it's thier only income.Chuck Liddell made almost twice as much as that entire payroll for his UFC 62 fight.
I'm 17 and I could match the money that Diego Sanchez is making annually. If I worked full time I could pull between 40 and 60 grand. So that is saying alot.
These guys are getting payed nothing. They are proffessional athletes and they're getting payed like they work at McDonalds.

even if you could pull in $60,000 a year from fighting you'd probably be breaking even. top notch training is'nt cheap, either is top notch nutrition. travel expenses and lets not forget everyday expenses. Look at how Forrest Griffin got started, he was living on his friends couch and training and fighting without health insurance. it paid off for him but i am sure there are are hundred fighters who don't make it and have to go back to working a real job. this is one reason i would love to fight in the IFL.

Does anyone know if the UFC takes care of its fighters, as far as medical insurance, or the fighters have to pay medical bills for themselves ? If not then getting a few thousands, then having to get some type of surgery would not be good.

That's really good to know. Eventhough I enjoyed watching fighting, I often worry for the heath risk/ injuries these fighters sustain after each fight. Glad to hear they are being taken care of.

Yeah I would think the UFC would cover injuries, if not half of the fighters would not even make a profit from fighting!

dude these guys have sponcers.... why do you think the shorts have all the crap on it and they alwas have to put on t shirts soon as they win.... when you get to the lvl of ufc you dont pay for training anymore and a lot of times you dont have to pay for a lot of other things.... when you win a fight it is almost all cash in pocket

Now I can really enjoy watching the UFC fights, knowing that the fighters injuries are taken care of by the UFC, and these fighters having sponsors backing them. Can't say enough, but I am really happy for them.

some guys have sponsors, not all. And only a select few, like Chuck Liddell have sponsors like Xyience that really make it worth fighting. most guys get a short sponsor or maybe a supplement sponsor. that might amount to some free shorts and some Redbull. not everyone is making a killing being a fighter.

A lot of training facilities let fighters train for free in exchange for a cut of the fighter's purse. Team VooDoo in LA trains fighters to compete for like $50 a month, and then puts on its own live gates to make a profit.
Its not a fortune, but successful C level fighter can make $20-30K a year, and they are doing what they love, not hanging shingles for a living.

20k-to-30k a year? Yuck...
I wonder how some of these fighters live, in brokedown shacks just to save what little money they make?
Damn. UFC needs to stop being so damn cheap and really PAY the fighters that keep it alive. In a way, UFC sometimes reminds me of Wal-mart and how all most only make minimum wage. More money in wal-marts pocket and the actual workers that MAKE it what it is, just get the scrapps.
And to think some washed up guy like Royce Gracie, can go in and make 400K in one fight just on name value alone. Even though he fought the actual match like crap and only showed up long enough to lose, collect his absurd pay and leave.
I'd jump at the chance to get beaten up by Matt Hughes too if i got paid 400k for it.

ill take the other view.... if they dont like the pay, and are only at the level of 20k a year.. then quit, and find something else to do... this sport is reserved for people who give everything to it... and the ones that are talented (like in any other sport) will get fame and fortune... The ufc only makes a limited amount of money on UFN shows, which is all shown in hte mma weekly article... im fine with all this personally

I must agree with this. They signed the contract in the first place, if they know they are gonna only break even in the fight or possibly even loose money to do it, it is either there own determination (which means one day they propably will make the big cash), or their own stupidity.
I don't ever here them complaining about how much money they make.

Kinda sucks that the very fighters that make UFC what it IS, have to "get-by" with crap pay-rates though...
Zuffa and the rest of the guys that own UFC get all the benifits, living comfortabley, etc. When the fighters themselves that keep UFC around are probabley lucky to barely afford a C or D-quality apartment somewhere.
I wonder if Pride actually had a REAL presence in the U.S, and thus competition for UFC,...If UFC would then start to pay its fighters at least "decent" salaries. So they would'nt jump ship to another promotion offering more money.
Isn't the reason Paul Buentello left UFC, was because Zuffa/UFC would only offer him lacking contracts? And that he wanted to stick around but *HAD* to leave and go elsewhere for money issues?
And look at the HW division right now... Can't afford to have more decent, B-level fighters just take off like that. In the end sylvia will only be holding the belt because UFC is just too cheap to bring in REAL competition.

I wasn't talking about UFC pay, I was referring to Team Voodoo based in LA. most of the guys there were construction workers or former marines. Some are just high school wrestlers who want to continue to wrestle, but aren't college material. Few of these guys will ever see the inside of the octagon, but they are entertaining to watch. I haven't seen a fight in 3 years (I'm poor and married), but they put on shows on the gulf coast in the casinos a couple times a years. Rich Clementi runs and organizes the whole thing.
The guys making 2 grand in the UFC also fight for other orgs. Some of them probably fight 10-12 times a year, and the others have day jobs.
