funny you post this. I did the exact same thing today. Saw it was out headed to best buy and they dont show it with a release date yet. I come back home and see it. JERKS!
So I just got home from work and checked the UFC website. To my excitement, I read "UFC 57 DVD on Sale Now." I grabbed my keys and almost headed out to Best Buy when I caught a glimpse of what read: "This two-disc DVD set is not available in stores." Apparently you can only get them through the UFC website now. Maybe this whole time we were waiting on the DVD's to come out, the UFC was busy trying to cut out the distributor!!!
I dunno. Personally, I hate it because I can no longer just run to Best Buy and buy the new dvd. Now I have to either use a credit card or send a check and wait a week or two to get my dvd.
What do you guys think?![]()

What took them so long to come out with the DVDs. UFC 58 should have been out already too.
good business practice
bad for fans

I hate when they do stuff like this...UFC...its FANtastic!
Back in June the UFC posted some news about UFC DVD availability. It stated that it they were having some issues with the distribution company at the time. Here's the link:Originally Posted by MillerLite

I may be completely wrong, but my theory is that this whole time, the UFC has been trying to eliminate the distribution company and make the dvds available only through the UFC website. Like Comucazi said, its great business for them, but it sucks for us.
Looks like you have to join the UFC Movie Club also, may not be to bad to get them as they come out but sucks none the less. 19.99 is not to bad of a price either.
Well, as long as the price doesnt go way up and we are left with no other place to get the DVD's other than through the UFC website, then its not too bad. I mean, it is their product and if they can bring it to market and distribute it via their website all the while cutting the distributers out of the picture, then why not? It is a sound business practice by them and it will provide them more profits. In theory, it could actually lower the cost to the customers since there wont be a "middle man" in the picture to take part of the profits. If the UFC can keep the production costs to where they were and just offer the DVD's through their website, then they should be able to pass on the savings to their customers. Wheather or not they would actually do that is another matter all together though....so who knows...
True, it is a sound business idea. Very smart in the UFC's part. I think we'll have to wait and see if the price actually drops for us. I remember paying like $16 at Best Buy for a dvd. Through the website, you pay $20 + $5 for shipping and handling. Let's hope they cut us a break.
At least it now says:
"the new release schedule is 30-45 days" so it looks like we won't have to wait very long to get the new ones.

What blew me away was I was able to find UFC Classics 6 on familyvideo.com before it was available on UFCs website. When it became available on UFC's website, it was a couple dollars more and shipping is only $1 on familyvideo's site. But it looks like I'll have to order Classic 5 through UFC unless Best Buy has it; haven't made it out there for awhile.
Yeah, Best Buy has Classics 5. I got mine a while back there, and I saw they still had a good amount of copies last week.
Its basically the worst decision fan wise, but HUGELY favorable business wise, smart by UFC...but fans are gonna revolt against it. Hopefully they will cut some sort of deal with a distributor.
Right on, Best Buy had a handful of copies of Classics 5 so I got me one. I noticed to in the Pride Section, there was Vol. 1-5 of Bushidos but Vol. 3 was vacant, only one copy of 2. Has anyone noticed any lack of certain volumes of Bushidos or did I just catch BB on a bad day?
Has anyone signed up yet for the UFC group??
I feel Pride can not get here soon enough in the states and have Dana White relinquish the stranglehold on American MMA (Top Markets at least), with all due respect to KOTC, IFL, WFA, etc...
Dana has ton so much good but it almost seems the ego and mountains of money they are bringing in has gotten the best of the UFC.
