    Default Bj Penn

Is It Me Or Does He Not Really Care Anymore He Gaesed In The 3rd As Of Late And I Called It Then Georges Called It After I Did? He Even Said He Doesnt Like To Train Hard. Maybe He Needs To Come To A Real Camp And Train Instead Of Using His Methods...anyone Agree?

I like Penn alot, but I'm starting to think that if he's not really interested in training hard, then maybe he's in the wrong profession.

He had me worried the first two rounds. He knocked Hughes pretty hard. It was pretty entertaining to see Hughes take Penns best shot and smile.... But yeah, he gassed. His cardio has slipped.

I'd like to see Penn commit to the sport and train with Team Punishment. If he could bring his cardio in line with his other skills, Penn would dominate.

Matt's smiling reminded me of Matt Wiman acting like Fisher wasn't hurting him before the flying knee. Penn would have knocked him out if Matt wanted it standing and Penn had gas

Hughes did good to make it out of the first 2 rounds but when it was all said and done, Hughes never won the fight, Penn lost it.

I cant believe that penn has come to his last two fights not in shape He has so much talent its a shame to loose the way he did (gas out). He had his way with Houghes the whole match mabe he will learn something from this loss like>>>>>I got my a-- handed to me by a fighter I should have beaten on a bad day becouse I wasent in shape.Like mentioned in the post above Houghes didnt win Penn laid down and lost.

come on guys he was in much better shape for this one then the GSP fight. 6 weeks is not alot of time when you live on the beach..Let me tell you...I think this fight will open his eyes...I did see him getting some love from team punishment. if he trains with them...it could be the begining of the end for everyone 170 and below

As far as talent goes, BJ can't be touched. If he does get his cardio up he will own the WW and LW divisions. That though has got to be the biggest "if" in the UFC. I hope he does because I am a big fan of Penn and because Dana White does not seem to be. I think it would piss him off to no end if BJ gets into fighting form and runs through two weight classes.

Matt Hughes crushed BJ Penn. Say all you want about the first two round, but the fight did NOT end in the first two rounds. Penn lost? Yeah, he lost BIG TIME. He gassed out just like I said he would. He gave up. He has no drive left in him to defeat real fighters. Penn is done, over, and finished. You can say all you like, but I will savor that awesome beating that Hughes dealt out to Penn in round three.

Remember that "deer in a headlights" comment about how Hughes looked after Penn won their first fight? Well, guess what. Watch the second fight again. It was Penn with that expression after the fight was stopped. Penn was the one that was squirming and struggling while the awesome power of Matt Hughes pounded Penn's head repeatedly.

Matt Hughes WON that fight. Matt Hughes is the most dominant welterweight anywhere and anytime.

Penn is NOT. Penn is done with. I would be very surprised to see him fight in the UFC again. He is now 2-3 in his last five fights. His career is now in the crapper.

All these IFs. Who cares, he lost to GSP and he lost to Hughes, enough with the "if he did this" scenarios already. Does he have potential, yes, but that doesnt win fights.

Let's be honest. To beat Matt Hughes all BJ needs is enough gas for one more round because when GSP takes the title away Hughes won't get five rounds to where down his opponents.

he had him, just didn't finish the deal.. same exact story as at 58. he's the best ww in the ufc, he's not the best cardio-ed ww, as everyones saying... and that sucks. i was excited as hell watching rounds 1 and 2. i loved the eye poke too, considering it was on Hughes.

Yes, let's be honest. BJ Penn said it in the interview before the fight. We all know what his mindset is with regards to cardio training. He is not going to change. He thinks that he can KO everyone in round one, so why train for more than that. Even after two devastating losses, I am betting he still is as arrogant and foolish (about cardio) as he was before these last two fights.

BJ Penn needs a hell of a lot more than simple cardio training. His striking last night was dreadful (he even eye-poked again, which made GSP visibly angry as they showed his reaction). And, since when did Hughes NEED five rounds? He beat Gracie in round one. He beat Penn in round three. In fact, Hughes has NOT gone five full rounds since 2003 against Sherk, and that was the ONLY match for Hughes that went five rounds.

What is it that Matt Hughes showed last night that makes you think he would win against a fresh BJ Penn. Cardio is the one thing BJ needs. When he had gas he fought hard. It was not some kind of mental block. He just didn't have the energy for three rounds, let alone five. Maybe it was the short notice, maybe it was his training methods, but it still in one adjustment. After that, he will run the division.

Boy you had some rose colored glasses on didn't you? Who here thinks if BJ hadn't gassed Matt Hughes not only loses, but get's the living crap beat out of him? I'll go first, ME.
Matt Hughes is the greatest champion in that division, yes. Hughes is the greatest survivor, yes. Is he the best fighter? Nope. Before BJ gassed all I could think was this is the best fighter I've ever seen. He made Hughes look silly, and his punches were dreadful? Then why did Hughes cry for a time-out after getting punched in the eye. That's right, punched. I didn't see a thumb, it was a knuckle. He should have never got the time-out. Hughes was on his way to a loss, BJ simply ran out of gas. Better cardio, yes. Better fighter, no. He won the fight tho, can't take that from him. You gotta have a full tank against Hughes, that's for sure.

Deal with the reality of the situation, come on people. Penn lost last night. No amount of "What IF" scenarios will ever change the results from last night's fight. No amount of wishful thinking, prayer, begging, crawling, or anything else will EVER change last night's results. Penn threw all he had at Hughes, some hard punches (even an eye poke), and Hughes kept on coming and coming and he crushed Penn. He beat Penn's head like he was dribbling a basketball. Hughes literally crucified Penn with that mount (it is called the crucifix).

I have to agree with Sub on this one. As good as Penn looked, he looked horrenduous in the third. You ppl act like he got hit with a lucky punch. IF ONLY HE HAD ONE MORE ROUND talk is pointless. Matt's plan was to survive until BJ gassed. BJ basically got embarrassed with that crucifix. Matt should have posed for pictures as he pummelled BJ.

Nobody is questioning the outcome of the fight or saying that Hughes didn't deserve to win. We are talking about BJ and what he needs to do. If he makes the adjustment needed he can beat Hughes, GSP, and anybody else. Maybe he will, maybe he won't, but the fact remains that if he didn't gas against GSP he probably would have won and if he didn't gas against Hughes he definitely would have won.
