Hughes is such a liar.
I'm sure his UFC-contract (+endorsements) are better than what they offered him before.
So, either Dana knew he was gonna lose the court case, or he thought bringing BJ back was a wise business-decision in another sense.
We'll see how "beaten and demoralized" he's after he beats your golden boy in the rubber-match. So, you're not only a Hughes-fan, but also a Dana White-fan? Who cares what Dana thinks anyway. I'm sure he wouldn't mind BJ being the champ one bit, cos he's an exciting fighter.
But more importantly, who the hell cares what he thinks?
|
My views on this are well known. And, this is about GSP-Hughes.
I will say this: Matt Hughes stayed and defended his title. It was up to the UFC to bring in Lindland and the crew that people think that Hughes might be avoiding. I don't see Hughes refusing any matches. I bet Dana White stiff-arms BJ Penn into obscurity. Rubber match? I bet we do not see a rubber match for years to come between Penn and Hughes.
The reason that the court cases existed were all on Penn. He LOST his injunction case where he tried to prevent the title from being awarded and defended. That alone is enough for me to be mad, him trying to keep the WW belt from the enjoyment of the fans. It was not that the UFC was losing in court. They did not lose at any turn. But, court cases are expensive.
That is where Penn hit the UFC -- the expenses on court costs. That money could have gone to bring in better fighters.
I fail to see where Matt Hughes was ever THAT BAD. And, I still see the hatred of Hughes as essentially baseless. GSP and Hughes are more freinds with each other than would appear. That seemed very obvious after the Penn-Hughes fight when GSP apologized to Hughes for that "unimpressed" comment and dismissed it as hyping the fight.

I think Matt would get a serious beat down if he stepped in the Octgn with Silva.
Silva has that reach advantage too so it would be hard for Matt to get close to Silva.
I think Matt made a big mistake saying that he would probably take on Silva.
Bad move Matt...Silva is going to eat you like a big country breakfast.

Hard to favor Matt in that fight when BJ could pound on him until he gased out later........BJ owned St P. until he gased out the same way.
So if Matt can't take on BJs striking hard to see him taking on Silvas.

Yeah, a Silva/Hughes fight would not be good for Hughes. He would probably get KO'ed in the first round just like Franklin.

Silva would make short work of Mathew. We saw how the Shoe Thief troubled Mathew standing up-- Silva would take that to a whole new level. Mathew would not survive a single round.

If Matt beats GSP again he will have very little left to achieve. He will go down in MMA history as a dominant WW champion. If he were to beat Silva, his fame and legacy would be that much greater as a multiple WW champion AND MW champion. That is why I think Matt will take this fight. He is a very confident person, he would want to avenge Rich's loss and a win would be huge for him. I don't see him ducking the opportunity if Dana allows it.

That was my whole point. BJ fighting Wandy was also not up to BJ. Who did BJ refuse to fight? He fought elsewhere, and got stripped of the title. He wanted to keep the title, which OBVIOUSLY means, he would have defended it.
No, that would be you HOPE&PRAY, that there won't be a rubber-match. But it's gonna happen, I'm sorry. There is no way Dana "trilogy" White is gonna pass on this chance, even if he disliked BJ.

Do court cases cost money to the winners of the case too?
And like I said, why would he want to keep the belt, if it wasn't that he wanted to defend it? You think he just wanted to leave forever, but still keep the belt? You can't be that stupid, even if you do hate him.

Of course you do. Just like I fail to see Penn ever being THAT BAD.
And I don't think Hughes is the anti-christ or anything, just a bit annoying. That and the other points I've made before (fighting style etc.).
I don't hate Matt Hughes. I wish he'll lose, but I don't hate him. Whereas you have stated, that you hate BJ. I don't think either of them has deserved anyone's hatred, no matter whose fan you are.

how good is silvas takedown d bjs is top notch and if matt fought at mw he wouldn't have to worryabout cutting as much weight he could out power the spider i know the spider is a black belt in bjj but so is royce gracie and matt beat him with bjj matt fights at a differant level and will retire on top of what ever weight class he wants to he is a smaller randy imo

Man, when will you guys realize: The majority of Matt Hughes bashers here, are just angry BJ Penn and GSP fans who are pissed that their favorite guys, have NOT beaten hughes anytime recently.
And because in the recent matches they've had, Matt PWNED them completly. Regardless of how much they may have been "winning" before they got the beatdown....Pretty Pathetic

If Matt Loses to GSP?
Matt to me has seemed to get more cocky the last year. He's the busiest UFC champion to date, and I think his run of seemingly easy success is getting to his head. I respect that he's the first 7 time defending UFC champ, but at the same time I go back to Mickey from Rocky III when Rocky says, "I'm the champ cause I had 10 title defenses" and MIckey says, "That was easy, those guys were hand-picked!".
Not that I think all of Matt's opponents were scrubs, but lets face it. IT's not like he fought a BJ Penn caliber for each one of his defenses. Which brings me to my next point.
I think if GSP wins this fight, Matt is going to lose it. I think Matt has so convinced himself that he can't be beaten that a loss would devastate him into doing something desperately stupid.
What are your thoughts Hobson?

Agreed. Actually, WHY are we even having matt face GSP again anyway? What a complete waste of time. Matt has already BEATEN him before! Geez.
Just another hand-picked chump, like BJ Penn was, keeping matt at the top...
Perhaps silva should pick up the gauntlet, drop down to MW, and fight Matt eh?

grave your still here? your opinions are useless on here... so now GSP is horrible too...
gsp clearly gets a shot now, no doubt about it... so with your theories chuck shouldnt be champ because he already lost to randy.. there should never be any rematches right?
if matt loses then he can do matt\bj III or matt\gsp III.... OR he can move up to 185... lots of options here

Matt Hughes is a strange character. i don't think he is cocky or arrogant, i just see him as being ultimately confident in his abilities and in the strength of his team MFS. at the same time Matt has trained hard for all of his fights ever since he lost to BJ the first time. before that fight he was cocky and thought that he was unstoppable, did'nt need to train hard. he admitted to not training at all for some fights and for as little as two weeks for others. Matt underestimated Penn in the first fight and the loss gave Matt a reality check. i did'nt like Matt at all going into that fight with Penn but he's really grown as a fighter and i can appreciate him for what he is. will he freak out of he loses to GSP? i doubt it. Matt knows, just like everyone else does, that eventually the reign comes to an end. Matt is very professional and mature as far as fighters go.

If Matt hughes loses, well when he does, he'll be back on his tractor in his tighty-whities crying into an Iowa sunset and clutching a big juicey ear od corn that he harvested all by himself.

I just always get a kick out of his entrance song.
That country boy can survive thing. How does it go (I'm guessing at the lyrics but this is what I hear):
"I live in the woods you see, with my big black dog and a boy like me!"
Now I dont want to know about what him and his dog and that boy are doing, but he has a point about Country Boys surviving. I mean Trigg shouldve choked him out and Penn shouldve tapped him from that Triangle.
So I guess the song makes sense.
