UFC 65 : Sacramento CA!!Huges Uncertain!
Tonight on KHTK Sacramento (Sports station and Supporter of the UFC), announced that the UFC will officially announce UFC 65 will be held in Sacramento CA on November 18th at Arco Arena.
The announcement will be made earliest Friday with the latest being Tuesday, the Northern CA radio station announced.
Also, the scheduled GSP/HUGHES fight for 65 looks uncertain as Hughes has sustained an injury that has not been disclosed but has been described as making his title defense vs GSP in November highly uncertain!
The announcement was made on the Sacramento Sports station KHTK on the Carmichael Dave Show this evening. The station has had numerous UFC fighters, agents, and producers including Dana White beause of the stations strong support as a mainstream supporter of MMA. The station is the flagship station of the Raiders and has even gone as far as focussing more broadcasts on the UFC and MMA events rather than the Raiders due to the pathetic run organization and season of the Raiders.
I dunno about anyone else here in Northern CA, but I'm going to get ring side seats at ARco for this one! Hughes or no Hughes, Sacramento is a great venue for something like the UFC!

So does this mean that GSP will fight someone else for an interim title, if Hughes is unable to defend?

No. This means GSP will sit and wait and be a good boy.
He just can't get a lucky break.
Hopefully, Hughes will get better...
so he can get back to worse.

Why? Surely if the champ is unable to defend then the top 2 contenders fight for an interim...like Arloski and Sylvia did when Mir was unable to fight, or Crocop and Nogueira when Fedor was injured?

Come on, Mir was gone for a bit longer than this. And Tito was ducking Chuck/"making movies"/asking for too much money.
If Hughes is injured for like couple months even (I doubt it'll even be that long), they'll just wait until he gets better.
And what would the option be seriously? BJ and GSP fighting AGAIN? For an "interim title"? BJ is injured too.
And don't say Diego.
They'd surely wait for Hughes to get better for even 6 months, before setting up some interim title-thingy.

Mir was injured for over a year. He was out of action for MULTIPLE title defense's.

Good god people. They are not going to set up an interim fight just for a small injury that we can't even confirm right now. Hell look at Rich Franklin. He's been out for a while now with his broken hand and look how much time they gave him. The only reason they set up the interim fight in the HW division is due to the seriousness of Mir's injury. I think everyone and their brother knew that a broken Femur was going to take a lot of time to get over. Unless Matt has cancer or a broken neck don't expect an interim fight anytime soon.

From Matt Hughes website:
Monday, October 2, 2006
This week I'm pretty much farming with Mark the whole time, I do have a camera crew here today and tomorrow shooting for an All Access special. This will be my last week of recoup and I want to spend all of that time with my family before I start training for Georges.
As far as the rumors on the internet, I have no idea what they are talking about. -Matt http://www.matt-hughes.com/blog.html
Regardless of the above, I'm still doubting they will fight in November.

There is no need for an Interim Title fight. Matt Hughes has met his quota of defenses for the last year. Riggs was the one that failed to make weight last November, not Hughes. That cannot be held against Hughes. He was ready to go and went even though it became non-title. Also, a non-title fight with Royce Gracie did show that Hughes is not avoiding fights. I think that Hughes has three-to-six months to defend again after defending the title from BJ Penn. IIRC, a champion is only required to defend his title twice year. I could be wrong about that.

It's actually not even twice. It's something like at least once in 12-14 months.
Too bad for Georgie though. I was looking forward to seeing him in action again.

I agree, Hughes to me defends more frequently than most UFC title holders of late. Chuck usually only fights what twice a year, Tito was about the same. Except of course this year with what I call zero calorie fights vs. Ken.
Hughes deserves a little vacation. I'm not his biggest fan, but he's a true warrior, a true champion that trains and acts in a way all champions should. And you can't take that away from the guy. With that said.....
I hope GSP knocks his block off sometime early next year! :sport-smi

Well if Matt is farming and getting ready to train that's pretty much proof that he isn't injured.
IMO This fight has to happen @ 65 because they are competing with a huge boxing match. This is probably the biggest boxing match they have had on PPV in a long time and if their numbers are able to surpass it that would be the ultimate demonstration of how far MMA has come.

Or maybe Matt Hughes is lying... In which case Jesus will punish him, using Georges Rush St Pierre as His engine of destruction.

If Matt is injured, GSP vs. Diego would be an awesome fight. Too bad it's too close at the last minute, that would not be fair for Diego to be well prepared for, so I guess that won't be happening. But some time next year, Diego should deserve a shot at either GSP or Hughes. And that might end up to be the fight of the year for 2007. As a matter of fact, I think Diego vs. Karo should be named UFC 's Fight of the Year for 2006, at least in my opinion it is.

I think if Matt is hurt GSP should fight anyone, I dont think Matt should of had 2 title defenses in a row back to back like that, but thats just me.
GSP and Hughes must happen, if GSP fights someone else, then will he be injured for Dec? They may just get all out of balance and never fight eachother.

LIke I said, I love UFC going to Sacramento. I'd like to see on the Sacramento Card:
Nick/Diego II.
That's all. The rest of the card, whatever.

Not only that, but if Hughes/GSP doesn't happen at 65, then 65 will have to rely on SYLVIA vs. MONSON to try and sell tickets. Kind of a daunting task.

I'd bet on Forrest-Babalu being added to spice the card. Then again, it is getting late.
