UFC 64
Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva
Record: 22-1 Record: 15-4
Pick: Rich Franklin
I would love to see Anderson Silva take out Franklin and have the fall of the Miletich camp but I don’t see it happening. Rich Franklin is an all around fighter with power, and good ground game. Anderson Silva trains with the best of the best with the Chute Boxe Academy, and will be in tip-top shape for this fight but Anderson “Spider” Silva took a shocking loss to Daiju Takase by triangle choke, which makes me question how well his ground game is. I hope to see high impact strikes and very minimal ground fighting. Im still hoping the Brazilian Anderson Silva pulls of the upset.
Sean Sherk vs Kenny Florian
Record: 29-2-1 Record: 7-2
Pick: Sean Sherk
You gotta be kidding me? Does the UFC really feel that Kenny “Kenflo” Florian really has a shot a beating the “Muscle Shark” Sean Sherk? Sherks only losses are to Matt Hughes and George St. Pierre and that was at a weight class he shouldn’t even be fighting in. Sherk maybe 5’6” but that makes no difference with this guy. I chose Nick Diaz to you his size over Sherk and boy was I wrong. Sean Sherk ground and pound, KO him out, make him tape… The New UFC Lightweight Champion.
Jon Fitch vs Kuniyoshi Hironaka
Record: 16-2 Record: 10-2
Pick: Jon Fitch
Jon Fitch in my mind is a top fighter at 185. He has taken out Josh Burkman when Burkman was at his hottest and Thiago Alves at a time the Alves was hot as well. He should be able to handle Hironaka if the fight stays on its feet.
Cheick Kongo vs Carmelo Marrero
Record: 19-2-1 Record: 5-0
Pick: Chieck Kongo
Carmelo Marrero’s fight plan is “ground and pound” but I don’t see Marrero taking Kongo to the ground and no chance of pounding him. Cheick Kongo in my mind is the # 2 contender for the UFC Heavyweight title, being that I see the winner of Mir vs Vera would be the #1 contender. Chieck Kongo is a all around fighter and I just love to see this guy strike.
Spencer Fisher vs Dan Lauzon
Record: 19-2 Record: 4-0
Pick: Spencer Fisher
This should be a great fight. Dan Lauzon’s brother Joe made his UFC debut knocking out Miletich fighter Jens Pulver, so why not Joe’s brother vs Miletich product Spencer Fisher. But I feel Fisher
Is a top fighter at 155 and has a way better chance of winning then Jens Pulver. I see this fight way different then Pulver vs Lauzon (Joe).
Keith Jardine vs Mike Nickels
Record: 11-3-1 Record: 4-1
Pick: Keith Jardine
I still feel that Keith Jardine is one of the best fighters at Light Heavyweight and in my mind he holds a win over “The American Pyscho Drugy” Stephan Bonnar. Mike Nickels is a street fighter with submissions but can be wild with his punches. I see “The Dean of Mean” just throwing a lot of legs kicks and strong right hooks to a victory.
Yushin Okami vs Kalib Starnes
Record: 18-3 Record: 9-1-1
Pick: Kalib Starnes
Kalib Starnes was one of my top picks in TUF 3 but loss due to injury. Starnes has great ground game with and well versed in his take downs. This fight should be active and I see Starnes going to 2-0 in the UFC.
Justin James vs Clay Guida
Record: 22-5 Record: 20-3
Pick: Clay Guida
Both fighters hold wins over John Strawn by submission, but that’s what there game is… submissions. Clay Guida lost a split decision to top Lightweight fighter Gilbert Melendez but holds wins over Joe Jordan, and Josh Thompson. Im seeing Clay Guida fighting experience out beating Justin James in this fight.
Kurt Pellegrino vs Junior Assuncao
Record: 14-2 Record: 5-1
Pick: Junior Assuncao
Assuncao less experienced but a better ground game. This fight should be interesting but I did see either of these fighters making a main card anytime soon.
