Default How good is Anderson Silva?

On the UFC website, they announced that they signed Anderson Silva to a multi fight deal. He's from Brazil so is there any relation with Vanderli, or the Chute Box Team? They also mention that he could possibly be a contender for Franklin's crown, is he that good? I suppose it's new blood, but how good is this cat?

Silva holds victories over the likes of Mach Sakurai, Alexander Otsuka, Carlos Newton, Jorge Rivera, and Jeremy Horn. In his last fight, on April 22, ‘The Spider’ knocked out UFC veteran Tony Fryklund in a single round. He's pretty good.
Rich Franklin better look out this guys good.

Anderson is good. He was considered by many the best in the MW division not too long ago right before his loss to Chonan. He used to train at Chutebox back in the day. With the MW division in the UFC lacking any real legit challengers, he's a good addition and provides a legit challenge to Rich's belt.

Damn that is a big gain for the UFC. Anderson is amazing but I don't know who would win a toe to toe battle with Rich. This is interesting . . .

Can't wait to see him fight in the UFC, he's a damn good fighter, and I believe that he will get a shot at franklin, some time this year.

Yeah Im a big fan of Anderson, I was saying to someone the other day how good it would be to have him in the UFC. He's also currently the world MW champ at Cage Rage.

Very nice signing for the UFC. I remember the knee to the head that knocked out Newton.
Should make for some very interesting matches coming up.

Default Silva coming to ufc????

anderson silva has been linked to a multi fight deal with the ufc this could be what the organisation needs now franklin is out for a unknown period of time this is what the ufc should be doing drafting in high quality fifghters rather than just relying on the TUF guys to step straight up???? do u think silva could be a force at 185????

Glad to see Silva get picked up by the UFC. Hope he can knock some dudes out on his way to the top. Silva has a good chance to be the one (in the UFC) to take Franklin out. Hope he can adapt to the UFC's rules without a problem.

On a side note. I felt like I was reading a high school newspaper article when I read the article on this. When did spiders start stinging people?

Yeah spiders bite but I don't think they technically "sting"...anyways this is definitely an awesome addition to the division, he can make for some awesome fights against The Crow, Tanner, Horn, maybe give him Swick or Leben then of course eventually against Rich. Good stuff.

If Franklin would stand with him, I think Anderson would win. I think it could be very much like Anderson vs. Lee Murray. Franklin would be knocked down as well. I don't know how Rich's takedowns really are, but he seems a lot bigger than Silva, so he might succeed. But Silva's no chump on the ground either.

That said, awesome signing. The MW-division doesn't look that bad anymore in the UFC after this and Tanner&Terrell returning.

Well, they couldn't really say that he was looking to "bite" any and all comers now could they? They are saving that for when they get Mike Tyson to sign LOL!

Thumbs down UFC jumps the gun...

Kind of disappointing news...

Anderson Silva has reiterated his status after the UFC ran a story on their official website claiming the 185-pounder had signed a multi-fight deal with the company. The story appeared on April 22nd, the same date Silva knocked out UFC veteran Tony Fryklund at Cage Rage 16 in London, England.

Silva held a seminar in Reading, England last week and openly discussed his status, “I have another offer from Cage Rage, K-1 has also offered me a contract for a Kick Boxing fight and the UFC has also offered him a contract”.

‘The Spider’ plans on deciding his future when he returns to Brazil and discusses the contract offers with his family.

Source: Fight Opinion

Man I was stoked to hear they picked up Silva. Unfortunately they jumped badly on this one. Someone's gonna get a spanken from poppa' Dana.

Here's a little more info on it from another article from MMAweekly.

The rumor mill is alive and well in MMA as last week's story that Anderson Silva and David Loiseau were going to fight one another in June apparently isn't true. Chalk it up as just that a rumor.

Maybe the most bizarre thing about the story is that the UFC website reported that Anderson Silva had been signed last week which is news to Silva. Silva told Fight Opinion.com quote “I have another offer from Cage Rage, K-1 and have also been offered a contract for a Kick Boxing fight and the UFC has also offered me a contract”.

David Loiseau said that he had not been offered a fight telling MMAWeekly "I haven't signed anything. I haven't heard anything from the UFC about facing Anderson Silva." So don't look for this fight to happen anytime soon.

In other news for Loiseau, MMAWeekly has learned that Loiseau now has a new manager. His old manager Stephane Patry had a falling out with David and now Loiseau will be managed by the same man who represents from UFC champ Tito Ortiz.

Default Is Franklin that good?

Or is the competition lacking? I am not saying there aren't good MW fighters in the UFC but are they good enough that Franklin victories over them makes him a top MW in MMA? Say in at least the top 3?

Don't get me wrong, I like Franklin and always cheer for him. My experience with other MMA organizations are limited mostly to edited clips butsome of those MW fighters look very impressive compared to the MW fighters in the UFC.

At this point, I'd definitely put Franklin in the top... 10 185 lb'ers in the world. He may well deserve to be ranked in the top three, but we need to see him against some stiffer competition first. I look forward to him defending against Anderson Silva.

Franklin-Henderson would be a very tough fight to call.

It's hard to say how Rich would compete with other MW in other organizations. I think he would do well though. If there is 1 thing that I CAN say for certain is that he is hands down one of the absolute TOUGHEST fighters I have ever seen.

No Doubt. Any man who fights and dominates with a bunch of broken bones is a man I don't want to attempt to fight. That said, I think Rich is probably the number 1 or 2 MW in the world right now. The question mark being Dan Hendersen. The only flaw I see in Rich is that he has a bad habit of dropping the hand that guards his jawline when he throws a strike. That's how the Crow floored him and that's how Evan Tanner floored him. He won both of those fights in convincing style, but one of these days your not going to get back up...instead it'll be lights out. I really think he needs to work on this. LOL, maybe he should kick Jorge Gurgel out of his corner and replace him with me instead.
