Rich talked about his surgery after the fight and his gameplan before the fight. apparently Frankiln thought he was going to be 10-15lbs heavier than Silva and be able to manhandle him in the clinch.

Yeah I didnt hear the MMAWeekly show but Ive just listened to Beatdown where he says basically the same thing. He went into detail about his recovery and getting his nose fixed up, didnt sound fun.

I listened to SD Beatdown too.
-him and his camp thought he would have problems, if he stayed outside and tried to trade like that with Silva. Like Crashsti said, they thought the clinch would have worked well for him.
-he spent the next 3 days after the fight staring at the traffic out of his window, then finally accepted the loss etc.
-he couldn't breathe out of his mouth for five days after the surgery, which meant trouble sleeping, lips cracked and bleeded, tongue blistered, couldn't taste food.
-surgery-wise the doctor told him the recovery was about 45 days.
-he was wishing he could fight in February the next time, but said that may be pushing it.
-185 is his home.

Its at the MMAWeekly site in its radio archives. If you listen when it goes live, its totally free, but if you miss it or want to listen to it later, you have to pay for a membership to have access to their radio and tv archives.

That's interesting, and if he meant that, it just goes to show you.
Speed kills!
A. Silva was far faster than Rich and manhandled RIch with just the right mix of speed and power. I'll always take the speed guy over the strength guy. Always!

How is speed involved in clinching? Looked like Silva was plain stronger in the clinch than Rich

Actually I thought he said he couldn't breathe out of his nose and therefore could only breathe through his mouth.

Of course. And I wasn't even wasted, when I wrote that.
How embarrassing.

for me the interesting thing is that i had recently watched a portion of Rich training from his All Access feature. they were talking about his 1 hour long weight training session to build muscular endurance and i questioned it's effectiveness down in the training section. this was before he lost and i felt kind of out of place doing so. who am i to question a MMA champion's workout? i guess i was'nt all that wrong in my thinking. Rich got overpowered.

Franklin losing is of course not some undeniable proof, that he's training "wrong".
However, I'm convinced personally that a lot of fighters could do their weight training more effectively.
The emphasis on long sets(many reps) with small recovery-time between the sets is imo not the optimum way of weight training for a fighter. It's the optimum way for a bodybuilder more like.
Weight training should be mostly used to get stronger imo, and for that you should do mostly small sets with heavy weights and enough recovery. And stop before failure.
For "muscular endurance" and cardio other type of training is better.

i never meant to imply that i thought Rich was training wrong. i only meant to say that i disagreed with what i saw but felt questioning what was working for the ex-champ was out of line on some level. i could'nt see how an hour of meduim/low intensity work would improve his ability in the cage for at most 25 minutes. i am sure he does other training but my belief is that why train for your muscles to last for an hour when you only fight five, five minute rounds. in my opinion, if i were training Rich i would like to see him doing a similar workout with higher intensity for just 30minutes. but like you said, Rich losing is'nt definitive proof that he is training wrong. of course Rich did admit that he was wrong in thinking he could overpower Silva in the clinch.
