Matt Hughes just said that he will not retire any time soon. He said that he has "years" left in his fight career. This was on the three-way interview on the Ultimate Fight Night Finale for TUF4 with Rogan, GSP, and Hughes. So, the retirement is not happening any time soon. Certainly not after just two more fights.

Yea I was happy to hear that news from Hughes. Too many good fights that have to happen before he retires.

Yup. He said GSP is just another opponent to him, impying that GSP is not the most dangerous fighter he has fought while defending his belt. I think GSP is for sure his #1 threat all time. I debated with my buddy about GSP and BJ... while BJ HAS beat him, I still think GSP is his toughest test to date.

Very good news to hear that Hughes will be around for years...the guy is still in his prime and will hopefully add more positive statistics which will result in him being one of the best/most memorable fighters in the UFC.

They should be held to the same standard as the rest of us.

You're right and i opoligize. But he has a really poor attitude most of the time and can be extremely hypocritical. And i understand your point, but i've been a moderator on a forum before, and i really feel they must be held to a higher standard. They set the example and the tone for what happens here. IMO this place was **** for a few weeks, and those few weeks were right before and right after the BJ-Hughes fight. Because it was the most respected people here who were taking the biggest part in the bickering, so that's what the entire place became.

I never said he can't have an opinion, but even though he's not bashing anyone, he frequently talks down to people, acting condescending. Which adds up after a while. And i'm not going to take it from anyone, and especially not from a moderator when i'm the one trying to keep him in line and keep a thread on topic. **** that. It's one thing to talk about another possible fight. But they picked up right where they left off in some other thread. And it happens every damn time the WW division comes up. I just can't take it anymore and can't even deal with the possibility of this place reverting to that. Again i apologize for the outburst, it's rare you'll see me this emotional. No i was not drinking, but that will probably be every other time lol. Sorry if i seem a bit harsh Johnny, but that's your bread and butter.

Good to hear that Hughes is stickin around. I don't like him, but he makes the UFC exciting as a fighter.

Penn/Diego/Silva.

I must see these fights from Hughes before he retires. and the UFC stands to make to much money off of those fights assuming Hughes wins all of them. also the guys saying they want to see Hughes win so that he will fight Silva. i personally think if he loses to GSP is a more probable scenerio to him fighting Silva. Hughes is gonna want to go out on top and losing ot GSP is not going out on top. if he steps into the octagon with Penn agian im sure he will lose. (even though thats one of the best grudge matchs of all fighting history) i think Hughes has a good 5 fights in him before he retires. and i also think Hughes will lose more then he wins in the next year or two.

besides age Penn has also bounced around wieght classes fighting the best guys avaliable to him. Penn not only deserves another shot at Hughes he will get one. the UFC would match these two up if they both went on 10 fight losing streaks because of how good there past fights have been.

I think he thinks BJ was his most dangerous opponent. He beat GSP once, so he feels confident that he will beat him. BJ beat him once, can't get more dangerous than that. He answered the question honestly without trying to talk down GSP.

he also made mention of how Bj show'd how you can beat GSP. its very obvious Penn has been the best competition to Hughes.

Can you bash on fighters any more than that?

Dude, you need to learn to read the forum rules.

At around $250K per fight plus an extra $100K+ in annual endorsements, I don't see Hughes retiring anytime soon. Like any athlete, when they start making the big bucks they have to be pushed into retirement. When his contract is up and he starts "talking retirement" it's just a ploy to maximize his next contract.

I should also add that the UFC is steadily growing and the purses will continue to get bigger and bigger. He's not going to retire when it's entirely feasible that he could get $1 million a fight within the next 2-3 years.

I don't think you will ever see a fighter in the UFC possibly making $1 million per fight within the next 2-3 years.

Liddell and Couture were making a mil a fight, and I think Tito does as well.
