Ok, so what is Matt's final score this title reign around? He had 7 successful title defenses before FINALLY losing to GSP tonight, right?

Also what year was it when he won the belt at the beginning of that reign? I think it was '04 but not sure.

Regroup...watch and analyze his fight...try to improve and give it another go...Hughes said he has years left in him so I'll expect him to rebound for a title shot eventually.

I actually don't see him coming back as strong as before. He's far from done as a top-fighter, and will still be one of the best. But I have a feeling that newer, tougher and younger fighters in the WW will be too much for him.

We saw how GSP totally destroyed him. Penn nearly finished him. And with up-and-comers like Sanchez, Parisyan still has a chance, and Koscheck maybe if he keeps improving.... maybe this is the beginning of the end for Hughes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's over for him. Just that he may not be as dominant and powerful as before.

What he needs to do is keep training. And maybe spend more time in the gym instead of on the farm.

Yup he had a great, LONG title run, and lost to a worthy opponent. Nothing to regret there.

Hughes will be back eventually, just like last time when he lost the belt to Penn.

That was the happiest I've been to lose 1500 points. I thought Matt's standup got exposed in the Penn fight. Glad to see GSP win it.

I'm glad I was 3 for 3 with the 3 biggest fights--Vera/Sylva/GSP--just wish I would have bet more ... I would have been happy to give up all my points to see Monson win, but that's how it goes...

If the first round had gone for 3 seconds longer the ref would have had to jump in and stop it then. Matt got lucky that he made it to the second round.

you simply cannot be a 1 dimensional fighter anymore! gsp is the 'new breed' of mma. thats why ppl like gracie, shamrock, couture, soon hughes, and soon chuck<--- although that ones gonna take a while lol! are not in it anymore. kids now train everything! there not wrestlers, strikers, jj etc. look at gsp what is he? awesome in everything!!! they dont classify him as any one category.

Incredible performance by GSP. I'm still in awe. Beautiful standup.

He really fought perfect...besides the couple of groin kicks...he was well prepared and had a great game plan.

I could have swore big john stopped it before the bell. Hughes got VERY lucky in the first round.

on Another note. GSP whipped that anus. Dominating performence!
I could almost call that a Flawless victory!

Here's the question of the day...

Will Matthew still be so cocky?? Will he still brag about his great genetics and his improved stand up?? Will he still look down his nose at everybody else and walk around with a smile on his face when we all know he's just smiling because he's trying to hide the fact that he's pissed about being so short.

I think it was TOTAL B.S!!! Matt knew he was going down soon. I was pissed and annoyed at that.

GSP is the man and deserves the win for the complete domination over Matt.

I have great respect for GSP!!!

CONGRATZ GSP!!!

I won my 1st bet!!!

Youre right. I thought he was on his way in to stop the fight and before he got there, the round ended. He could have as easily called Hughes out right there as he did when Horn choked out Chuck Liddel in their first match. The round ended and Chuck couldnt get up and he called it.

This fight was nothing short of domination by GSP. Very proficient and accurate in striking and his takedown defense was spot on tonight. I think he did a masterful job and is well deserving of the belt.

Its going to be interesting to see if they have a Hughe / Penn III or a Hughes / GSP III next.....

Yeah, he did do a great job in preparing for the fight!

So do you think that those kicks landed in the groin? I kinda thought they landed on the inside of his leg. Maybe the kicks hit Matt grazing upward. What kinda gets me is the late reaction Matt had to the first kick. I dunno.
