this is not so much an update as it is an email from his place of training regarding Jeff post fight. one of his trainers, Rhadi Ferguson sent it and i thought it was worth sharing.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hey, I spoke with Jeff Monson
last night and he was feeling a
bit down. He was still in Sacramento
and he said that he had that "car
accident" feeling. For those that
have played football before - you
know what that feels like.
I told Jeff that we were all
very proud of him, especially the
way that he poured on the heat in
the beginning rounds. I told him
that that is what champs do - they
go until they don't have any more.
***********************************
Last night I received an email from
someone that wrote this:
"If you all trained Jeff as hard
as you hyped, why did he gas so early?
Did you over-train him? I am a big
Monson fan and was really disappointed
in his overall cardio. The only real
exertion he had was going for the
takedown and having Tim sprawl on him.
I was interested in buying your DVDs
for the MMA group I train but now it
looks like a lot of hype, bro."
************************************
I can't post my reply because it
was "energy intensive" :-)
But the part of this email that
really puzzled me was this part,
"The only real exertion he had
was going for the takedown and
having Tim sprawl on him".
As I read his email, I sat in
front of my computer scratching
my head. Hell takedowns take
ENERGY!!
------------------------------
So here's my e-lesson for the day.
ENERGY=DOLLARS.
In the beginning of the fight
Jeff spent more dollars than
Tim did. And for those of us
that watched from home - that
was Tim's gameplan and it was
a good one. Our plan was to
definitely get Tim down before
the third round (its obvious who
won that battle).
By the 3rd round, Jeff had spent
most of his money as well as
receive a rib injury. So he was
for all intents and purposes
broke.
Now for the question of the
day - Was he out of shape?
No! If Jeff did nothing
he would walk out of the
ring, wouldn't be tired,
and would have still taken
a loss. The great thing about
being in shape is this - when
you have MORE $$$ you can
spend MORE $$$.
And you know that Jeff was in
shape because at his pace in
the beginning of the fight.
Because ALL OF US KNOW - when
you ain't got it to spend,
YOU SPEND IT WITH CAUTION. But
when you got it to spend - you
burn it up!
The workouts that Jeff performed
before he left with JC would have
crippled the ordinary mortal. But
tactics and strategy are part of
the game too. Not only conditioning.
At any rate, for those that had a
problem accessing the website to
get Jeff's Final Countdown DVD
Package - here it is right here:
htt://www.thefinalcountdowndvd.com
I believe it will make an excellent
holiday gift and it will provide
you with new ideas in the weight
room and as a grappler and/or
coach.
Just so that you know. After I
wrote that person back, here
was his reply:
"Well put, Rhadi. Thanks for the
response and I will buy the DVDs."
:-) Amazing what a lil' explaining
can do.
Take care,
Rhadi Ferguson
