Default Predictions for 2007

With just a little over a month left in 2006, what do you think 2007 will hold for the UFC? More fights? less fight? New champs? Old champs reclaiming their belts?

IMO 2007 will be the year of the skinhead. Fellow baldies Silva and GSP will keep their belts for the year while BJ Penn will claim the LW belt (assuming he goes down to LW) Vera will get the HW title and keep it for a good amount of time and by the end of 2007 Rashad will win the LHW title and therefore complete the skinhead shutout.

Being bald allows fighters to not have to worry as much about such annoyences such as hygene thusly giveing them a clearer mind and more time to train. Yup after 2007 it will be clear that the key to winning in the UFC is getting rid of the hair.

BTW Buzz cuts are almost bald so they are still considered skinheads.

i think tito will go into 07 the title holder and lose it either is 1st or 2nd time defending it. so all in all i completely agree with you grits.

and i agree with duke as well, the skinhead community might have a problem with calling vera/penn/silva a skinhead <3 hahahah

I cant see Liddell losing to Tito. I think the fight will be much like the first one. Im fully expecting Liddell to have the belt for most of 07 but once Rashad gets his shot I think he will win.

If Rashad doesnt win I will put my faith in Wilson Gouveia

- Hughes will retire after losing the rubber match with GSP.
- Rashad gets a title shot late 2007 and wins the belt.
- Anderson Silva remains champ the entire year (a real war with Ace in the rematch though).
- BJ Penn fights for the LW belt and wins.
- GSP will be undefeated in 2007.
- Lindland will be signed.

I agree with everything stated above except for Rashad and/or Tito winning the LHW belt.

Vera HW champ? Sure. Silva keeping MW belt? Sure. GSP undefeated in '07? I think so. BJ LW champ? Sure.

I just don't see a LHW out there that can beat Chuck. I think people are more tired of seeing Chuck knock people out in the 1st round, and not being taken to the ground. I think these people are the ones who are putting their faith in Rashad and Tito, since they want something fresh and new in the LHW division.

As for me, I'm saying '07 will remain a Chuck year.

GSP will stay undefeated in 2007 most likely (I still think Hughes was just WAY to over confident and won't make the same mistake again but even if he doesn't, it'll be a very close fight.)

Liddell will NOT lose the belt to Rashad, he won't be able to take him down, shoot for the takedown on the third-fourth try and get KTFO'ed, I think Liddell will lose his belt towards the middle of the year as to who will dethrone him, I still haven't decided. If the Wandy fight happens and Dana just happens to be smoking rocks and signs a "inter-organizational" belt then it'll be his.

Silva is going to DOMINATE the middleweight division until his rematch with Franklin, then I think Franklin will put up one hell of a fight, hell hath no fury like a former champion scorned.

As for Sylvia, if they bring in some new blood from Pride I don't see him keeping the belt (Alexsaaaander), if not then it's his for most of 2007.

Vera will dethrone Sylvia soon.

As for the LHW, Chuck is going to keep the belt for now.

MM is going to be A. Silva for now.

WW, GSP is going to have a tough road ahead for him since there is still Hughes, BJ (if he stays at WW, and Sanchez. So I don't know if he will keep it too long.

LW will be BJ Penn's belt if he drops down to this weight class and take his trainning seriously.

Champs:

HW: Vera
LHW: Rashad Evans/Forrest Griffen (okay, that second one is hope)
MW: Mike Swick
WW: Matt Hughes
LW: Maybe BJ Penn, but I don't know, I've never seen him fight as a lightweight. This one is hard to predict, there's a lot of talent right now in the LW division and a lot fighters at around the same skill level.

HW: Hopefully vera, he certainly has the power, speed, and set of skills to make it happen. Wouldn't mind seeing him making some muscle though.
LHW: I agree that i just don't see chuck losing his belt... probably a chuck year. Although, let's admit that the eye he poked during the chuck/tito I fight did make a difference.
MW: I love franklin, but will probably stay a silva year. As someone who's watched a good bunch of silva's past fights, i wasn't surprised that silva took the fight.
WW: Honestly, i wish Penn stayed in the WW division, and took the belt back. He's honestly the only guy in the highly stacked WW division that has a good chance of taking it from GSP. All in all, GSP all the way.
LW: No clue. GOD.... I hope Jens Pulver returns back to his winning ways. Seriously though, what the heck was going on in his last fight with Lauzon.

-BJ will dominate the LW-division
-GSP will dominate the WW-division, beating Hughes in the rubber-match and destroying Diego's undefeated record.
-Silva will knock out Franklin again. Swick will also lose.
-(I hope) Vera beats Sylvia, and drops down to fight Chuck. No idea, who'd win that one.
-(I hope) the HW-division gets some serious re-enforcements.

LW - BJ...if he decides to give it a shot and actually trains.
WW- GSP the whole year, even taking out Matt again (won't be as easy).
MW- A. Silva. Period.
LHW- Chuck remains the champ taking out Tito and Rashad by K.O.
HW- I hope Vera. Not a fan of Tim.

Melvin Guillard will be LW champion. Penn will either lost the melvin or Fisher. Sherk will lose the belt in his next defense.
Vera will beat Silvia. They will have a rematch and Vera will win again.
Liddell will a fight against Rampage Jackson.
ACE Franklin will get his rematch with Silva, take him to the ground, and when his title back.
GSP will win a close decision against Sanchez and he will dominate Hughes again while sending him into retirement.

I think the UPSET year of 2006 (Franklin and Hughes losing their title ) will continue with Tito beating Chuck on New Years eve weekend which will set up 2007 as being "Newcomer" year. I think if Tito retains his title there will be noise from Griffin fans and Rashad fans and the like to take Tito on.

However, if The Iceman loses, I'm sure we'll see at least one rematch between him and Tito.

Even if Rampage would get the title shot, Chuck would definitely be the favourite there.

If someone else beats Silva, and Franklin fights that guy, then he might have a shot at getting the title. That's a big IF though, and Franklin won't beat Silva. He'll never finish Silva, and he'll never last 5 rounds with him either. Therefore, he loses.

Stevenson champ?

------------------
My picks for champs:
-HW Vera
-LHW Liddell
-MW Silva
-WW GSP
-LW BJ

That's actually a pretty impressive list too.
