UFC'S UNDEFEATED RASHAD EVANS LOOKS TO HOOK A TOUGH 'SALMON' ON SPIKE TV

Rashad Evans and Sean Salmon Headline UFC Fight Night Card

From the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Thursday, January 25 at 8:00pm ET/PT

Fight Card includes Dean Lister, Nathan Marquardt, Spencer Fisher, and the UFC debut of hard-hitting heavyweight Heath Herring

New York, NY, January 9, 2007 • Rashad Evans (9-0-0) is one of a handful of fighters who have never known the bitter taste of defeat inside the Octagon. With a perfect record still intact, the rising UFC light heavyweight aims to keep it that way on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 8:00 PM ET/PT at The Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, when he squares off against Sean Salmon (9-1-0) LIVE on Spike TV.

Fighting out of Lansing, Michigan, where he was an All-American wrestler at Michigan State University, Evans has not lost since making his UFC debut on Season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter. After defeating Brad Imes in the heavyweight finale, Evans has fought at light heavyweight, and has dominated in bouts against Sam Hoger, Stephan Bonnar and Jason Lambert. Threatening to snap his perfect streak is UFC newcomer Sean Salmon, a former top ten nationally ranked wrestler at Ohio State University with ten MMA fights under his belt.

In the co-features, Spencer “The King” Fisher has won four out of five UFC bouts including a recent victory over Dan Lauzon at UFC 64 in October and is rapidly moving into the upper echelon among UFC lightweights. Fisher needs a victory over savvy veteran Hermes Franca from Brazil to continue his quest for an eventual title shot. Middleweight contender Dean Lister (9-4-0) of San Diego, CA. will be gunning for his third straight win against Denver’s Nate Marquardt (22-6-2), winner of his last four UFC bouts.

The Spike TV card will also feature the highly-anticipated UFC debut of hard-hitting heavyweight Heath Herring, “The Texas Crazy Horse.” The Texas native and current Las Vegas resident has a professional MMA record of 26-11 and has fought many of the sports’ notable heavyweights over the years including Vitor Belfort, Evan Tanner, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark Kerr, and Fedor Emelianenko Herring will battle undefeated Jake O’Brien of Indianapolis who recently scored an impressive victory over Josh Schockman at UFC 65 in November.

In undercard action, The Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist Ed “Short Fuse” Herman takes on Chris “The Exorcist” Price in a middleweight contest; The Ultimate Fighter 4 alumnus “DinYero” Din Thomas battles Clay “The Carpenter” Guida in lightweight competition; Ross “The Gladiator” Pointon of The Ultimate Fighter 3 is matched up with Rich “No Love” Clementi of The Ultimate Fighter 4 in a welterweight contest, and The Ultimate Fighter 2 semifinalist Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli meets Hector “Sick Dog” Ramirez in a matchup of light heavyweights.

Great post, dude! Now I know everyone who'll be fighting. It could actually be an OK event, all things considered.

But if Rashad doesn't fillet that Salmon, I'll never forgive him...

Guida/Din on an undercard is a crime against humanity.

The UFN Fight card has been updated on the site with the main card: Evans-Salmon, Lister-Marquardt,Obrien-Herring,Fisher-Franca.
and under card: Herman-Price, Guida-Thomas, Pointon-Clementi, and Burkman-Reiner. Anyone know why the Ramirez-Petruzelli fight that was supposedly official isn't on there?

Ramirez injured his ankle and pulled out of the fight with Petruzelli.

Interesting interview with Sean Salmon here.

Kool, thanks. I wonder if their gonna be able to find a replacement opponent in time. I'd like to see Valimaki fight again. Who would you guys like to see take on Petruzelli?

I'm not really interested in seeing Seth fight again. I got hoarse when he fought Hamill, cause I yelled "PUNCH! PUNCH! PUNCH!" for 15 minutes, and so did his corner, but he didn't listen.

This could be a pretty dangerous fight for Evans. His standup will be his most important advantage. For potentially the first time, he may be facing a wrestler of equal ability. Salmon was a stud for Ohio State in wrestling before failing out of school, winning the MSU Open as a soph at 184 lbs. That would be the same tournament that Evans won at 174. Salmon went on to alot of success on the international Freestyle scene. He's only been doing MMA for a year, so I think he is too green to threaten Rashad on his feet. I look for Rashad to win by TKO. But if this goes to the ground, don't be surprised if Salmon lands on top and we get to see what Evans has from his back, a position that he has not been for a long time in any of his fights for the UFC thus far.

I believe so.

This should be an interesting fight. Obviously I'm rooting for Rashad, and I hope this would be another chance where he could showcase his skills and prove he deserves tougher opponents.
I'm really hoping to see him use his standup a bit more. His boxing's actually pretty good, but he just doesn't use it enough. If he could show everyone that he's lethal on his feet too, that would be a big step up for him.
This fight's worrying me a bit, kinda nervous to see him take on a wrestler this good. But we saw him destroy tough competitors like Lambert, so I'm guessing he'll win again.
Again, I predict a TKO in round 2.

GO RASHAD!!

This is an ideal chance for Rashad to show he's an MMA fighter, not a wrestler, cause it looks like Salmon would best him in a pure wrestling match.

I saw both in college and honestly, Salmon is the better wrestler. Rashad had one huge win where he defeated a returning undefeated national champ (Greg Jones), but for the most part Rashad underachieved in wrestling for the potential he showed. Especially that match. He has done much better at MMA and has gotten better and better.

Think about this. Rashad won TUF 2 at heavyweight and is now competing at Light Heavyweight, 205. He wrestled 174 in college. What division did Koscheck compete and win the National Championship at? You guessed it, 174, the same as Rashad!

All wrestling aside, this fight shouldn't of been main evented. In his interview posted above he even acknowledges that its understandably dum to have someone in the main event the fans won't even reconize.

So true.
I think for every good decision the UFC makes, there's two really dumb ones.
This here is one dumb decision.

i think they are finally trying to set rashad up for a title fight. why else would he be main eventing against a guy noone heard about? the lister fight could have just been the main event. i think this is rashads big chance to really dominate in a main event fight on cable tv where he will get even more exposure.

Well, there's Babalu, Rampage, Gouveia, Hamill, or anyfreakinbody we've ever heard of before. I absolutely hate the way the UFC debuts newbies against contenders and rising stars. Hate it!

Not to bash Rashad, but I don't think this fight will put him in title contendership if he wins. Lets see him beat ortiz, babalu, or even jardine and we'll talk.
