Gonzaga out of 68? Rumor from MMAWeekly
UFC 68: MARCH 3, 2007 IN COLUMBUS, OHIO (Nationwide Arena) from mmaweekly tues jan 9
-Matt Hughes (#2 Welterweight in the World)* vs. Chris Lytle
-Rich Franklin (#5 Middleweight)* vs. Jason MacDonald
-Jon Fitch (#7 Welterweight)* vs. Luigi Fioravanti
-Mike Swick vs. Yushin Okami
-Tim Sylvia (#5 Heavyweight)* vs. TBA
-Karo Parisyan (#5 Welterweight)* vs. TBA
-Joe Stevenson vs. TBA
-Gabriel Gonzaga vs. TBA
-Assuerio Silva vs. TBA
-Martin Kampmann vs. TBA
fist it was gonna be vera, then it was supposed to be gonzaga, but now this tba fighter is back.
is it possible that the ufc realised how lame the fans thought this fight would be so they altered it?
rumour is that randy has a big announcement!!
irrespective of the reason, gonzaga appears to be out. no offense to the guy, but this may good news and may save a lackluster card.
any thoughts?
any ideas who it may be?
when does crocop fight???

I would love for Randy too come back and lay the smack down on Tim. Im also glad they got rid of that garbage fight. Gonzaga vs Sylvia sounded like another 5 round sleeper too me.

i believe randy would have a pretty good chance at winning, randy is good at clinching and using dirty boxing, which would sort of nullify big tim's reach advantage.

The reason Randy left HW was because guys like Barnett and Ricco outsized him so much that he just got outpowered and ended up gassed towards the middle of the fight.
Now at 43,he's gonna fight a prime Sylvia who has upwards of 50lbs on him and a definitive reach advantage.
I heart Randy Couture, but if he were to beat Sylvia it would blow my mind like it's never been blown before.

I've posted my thoughts on this fight in another thread, but I do think he has a chance. Tim has not looked very aggressive in his last couple of fights. Tim has the reach advantage, but Randy isn't afraid of taking a few if it gets him in closer for a clinch and take a guy down. If they do fight, we'll see if Randy's age and time away from the octagon prove to be deciding factors in the fight.

*Camera pans to Joe and Randy*
Joe:"So Randy we hear that you have a huge announcement. We're all anxious to know what's up.Could we perhaps see you fighting in the Octagon again?"
Randy:"Well Joe,no,but I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico."
Joe:"For sure."
Dana:"Geico is the greatest of all times!!Of all f***ing times!!"

I really do not believe they would do this. Let's say he beats Sylvia does the UFC really hate Couture so much that they would let Cro Cop murder him? I'm sorry Couture is in great shape but at 43 years old he really shouldn't be fight against someone like that, he could seriously hurt him.

I like Randy, but I don't think he should step back in the octagon. I can't see him coming back to fight Tim. If he did make a comeback, would it be against Tim for the HW belt..?I don't think that would happen right away.

Garbage fight? Gonzaga has just as much chance at beating Sylvia then Couture does and definitely more than Vera does right now. I wonder how many people judge Gonzaga solely on the fight with Jordan. If you have seen any other fights in his career you would know he a threat to almost any HW out there.

Yeah,he is a great and severely underrated fighter.
The day of the Jordan fight his daughter passed, and not only did he still fight but he got the KO.
At least he's actually fought a legit top ten fighter, unlike Arlovski or Vera.
I'd say he'd probably be the champ had not CroCop signed the dotted line.

If Randy is going to fight Tim, I don't think he will win this fight cause he will not even get close to Tim to clinch him and bring him down. Even if he did bring him down, he can't do much cause of Tim's reach, look at the Monson fight....I think Randy is going to come out of retirement which I think he shouldn't and fight LHW again. I guess we will see soon what is the announcement will be.

IT'S OFFICIAL!
For UFC 68, Randy Couture just announced that he will be fighting Tim Sylvia with Tito Ortiz riding on Tim's back. It should be awesome.
