Default Hermes Franca Vs Spencer Fisher

Is this going too be the fight of the night come Jan 25? I was looking up the fight card for the next UFN. This looks like a great card so far: Dean Lister Vs. Nate Marquardt, Jake O'Brien Vs. Heath Herring and Hermes Franca Vs. Spencer Fisher all look like darn good fights. I'm thinking Fisher is going too KO Franca in the 2nd round. What do you guys think about this fight?

I hope Fisher wins, but I think Franca will out wrestle him and win by a submission.

O'Brien Vs. Herring could be a good fight. Herring wants too make a good impression in the UFC and O'Brien is undefeated.

Yeah I think this could be fight of the night. I'll be rooting for Franca to win by submission. He's one of the most underrated fighters in the division imo.

This card is good indeed. Shame about the PPV's...

I'm rooting for Franca, he seems uber-cool.
Whereas Fisher is your typical MFS-fighter bleh...
Franca by submission!!!

What do you mean, typical MFS fighter? MFS has brought out many great fighters, and Fisher is another one.

Fisher to TKO in the first round.

By that I meant "arrogant jock-types, who think they have a license to be a penis".

There are exceptions to the rule though. But usually I root against MFS.

The only two that I can really name with an attitude problem were Tim The Can-iac Sylvia and Matt Hughes.

Franca by KO end of round 2 begining of round 3.... Franca is clearly going to try and bring it to the ground and fisher is going to try and fight on his feet for the most part... if franca can take him down like i think he can end of round two he will throw punchs to set up better take downs and franca can throw HARD!.... so if fisher thinks a shot is coming and eats a left right combo or even a right i am going to say he wont be getting back up.

I'll be betting on Franca. Hermes isn't the greatest striker, but he can handle himself OK, and has a tough tough chin. On the ground, I give Franca a clear advantage.

I agree with you about MFS, but disagree about Spencer. I think he's a lot more humble than the other guys. Or at the very least less arrogant. He doesn't really have that all business aura. I wouldn't expect Matt hughes to be making fun of himself and the holes in his game after a fight. It's a shame because it's hard to dispute that MFS is one of if not the top American camp, but i'd never want to train with them. I hated those kids in high school. And i see Franca taking this by swickatine or armbar. I won't be suprised if Fisher takes this though.

I'd agree if Fisher had any kind of takedown defense, but his wrestling in general is pretty aweful. Even he admits it. He's had a while to work on it so we'll see. But if he hasn't improved leaps and bounds in that area, i would not say he has the advantage. His best tool in this fight will be his heart, he's going to need it.

how do you figure.... isnt the saying "a classic case of grappler vs striker".... and doesnt that mean the grappler takes it to the ground and the striker is out of their eliment.... as a grappler knows it starts on the feet and knows how to get it to the ground.

The striker has the advantage because the fight starts on the feet. And because if the fight goes to the ground and there's not enough action it gets stood back up. The grappler gets diddly.

umm as a grappler we know the fight starts on the feet... my best abilitie is the takedown... there is no one in my gym that i cant take down... i wrestled for a long time and never came across anyone i couldnt take down... i truely believe if a ground guy wants it on the ground it will go there... staying there is a different story

How many fighters have said the similar things and gotten KTFO by Chuck. "Your gym" doesn't really count for anything as it has a limited number of people who are far less skilled and diversified than these UFC fighters. And as you said, getting it to the ground and keeping it on the ground are very different. I too am a wrestler. I feel that it is the best skill to have as it gives you the option to lay n pray and keeps you in top postion. But it still equates to an advantage for the striker because the fight starts and is easily put back to his realm.

Franca is on a tear the last year. In 2005, he like lost 4 fights in a row I heard, then he got some sponsorship which allowed him to train full-time and he won all his bouts in 2006 plus the lightweight WEC title, which he now had to vacate because of the Zuffa buyout.

I think this will be a good fight, but feel Franca is just out-classing everyone he fights, so I'll take him. He is an exciting fighter to watch with some of the best, tightest textbook submissions out there.
