Default UFC Scouting/Match-Making

Just wondered what all your opinions are on this. I have the opion that overall the UFC does what it can to bring as an exciting fighter as can be and match them up. However....

I think the UFC is weak in that when interviewed Joe Silva (UFC Match-maker) says he goes all over the country all the time to watch MMA fights in smaller orgs. He then determines (sometimes by only watching a fighter once) if they're exciting enough to be in a UFC match and they go and make it happen.

I understand that philosophy but think it has holes also. One fighter being exciting just when he happens to have the UFC scout and match-maker for one or maybe two fights, does not necessarily mean that fighter is a good fighter. Jason Thacker (remember the kid from TUF 1) had an exciting fight in COnnecticuit ONE time and freakin ended up on the show before they really held formal auditions. And basically that kid had no business being anywhere near an MMA fight.

I think the UFC would be better served to scout from established professional orgs such as kickboxings K1 and other upper echelon MMA orgs rather than these sometimes freakish small city MMA orgs with questionable promotion. The UFC should maybe invite some fighters from the better orgs into the UFC who wanna give MMA a whirl. I think the UFC needs to do a better job at getting truly deserving talented fighters into the cage because I'm getting a little tired of some "Unknown" fighter fighting once in the UFC just to fill an undercard, then the fight sucking, then never seeing them again. Or sometimes seeing a great fighter who's unknown debut in the UFC, then he has an outstanding fight in the UFC and again never seeing that fighter again.

Maybe they could somehow incorporate the WEC now that they own that organization as well. Any established or well-known fighter signed could go straight into a UFC card. On the other hand a fighter that seemed "interesting" or one that hasn't proven himself yet could start out on a couple of WEC cards. If he proves worthy then bring him up to the big show.

What I liked about WEC is the fact that when they were on HDNET, they usually marketed themself by calling THE UFC the best MMA organization in the US, and that they did act and knew they were basically a minor league for the UFC>

What sucks now, is you cant get WEC events.

That is a dis-service (especially with Olaf and Rob McCullough) fighting on their first Zuffa sponsored card tomorrow.

Somehow, I'd even pay PPV to see a WEC event no matter how much $$$ was involved. I will miss the WEC and hope Zuffa finds a way to get the WEC exposed to the public. Because they have some damn good and entertaining fighters!!!!

i like that boxer MARCUS from tuf2. he didn't have any ground game during the show. then he improved as an MMA fighter and beat shoney carter last month. that's what i like to see. maybe they could take fighters from kung fu, karate, pro wrestling, football, hockey or other contact sports and train them in 6 months to be MMA fighters.
