Anderson Silva underwent knee surgery
Joe Rogan stated in the Underground:
"Anderson Silva had knee surgery on both knees just 11 weeks ago. That was why he was so easy to take down, and that was why he couldn't squeeze 100% when he had Lutter in the triangle. I ran into his manager after the show and he told me the whole deal. His knees were still very sore. Later that night I ran into Anderson in the hotel, and he was limping like he was just double knee barred."
A Silva had knee surgery 11 weeks

Whoa, that's hard to the core, as the kids say these days.
He still even put that body triangle on, when he had Lutter in the guard.
What's with all these injury-exposes after fights nowadays. Chuck, Herring, Silva...

Yeah it seems like before or after every big fight someone has an injury to point out.

No wonder Anderson was so angry at Lutter for not making weight. AS had surgery on both knees, probably couldn't train 100%, and still showed up to fight and defend the belt.

^^^Yep, that could make a man angry
The injury could partly explain the way he was taken down so easily by Lutter. Cuz a lot of those TD attempts were pretty weak and telegraphed. I admit I haven't seen too many fights of Silva (just a few of his standup ones), but I was expecting a better TD defense.
Once it got to the ground, Silva did alright. I wonder how much in pain he was from holding that triangle for so long. I respect the guy for coming into the fight after the surgery, and for still doing so well. There are some people who say he didn't do well, but he won the fight, and ultimately that's the only thing that really matters. I gained more respect for Silva after this fight (and a bit for Lutter).
But still, it's so common to hear fighters say after a fight that they were injured.
Do you guys really care if Silva or someone else was injured going into/ or during a fight? Does this make a valid excuse for you? Or is it so common that you don't think it matters?

the main reason for fighters not coming out and saying that they are injured is because they don't want there opponent to know and take advantage of their injury.

Hum... Sounds like this is getting to be a fad.. IMO if they are injured and they don't want people to know. Thats great! They should keep it to themselves.. Otherwise all we hear is excusses fly all over from nut huggers on both sides..

The quote about the knee injury actually came from joe rogan after talking to silvas manager .... not silva himself.

I think it's more that they're not allowed to fight with big injuries like that, and the state commissions would probably stop the fight from happening, but your reason is good too.

Cool thanks for posting that Pitbull. His takedown defense was the only thing that surprised me in this fight, but its good to know this was down to surgery and not a weakness in his game.
I was also impressed with how good Anderson's chin is, he was taking some solid shots when Lutter had him mounted but Anderson just looked calmly back up at him before bucking him off.

I agree and think there is no reason to even put it out there. To me it is no different than racing cars. "Run what you Brung" Both fighters chose to enter the ring and you are the fighter that was there that night in the condition you chose. I myself was pretty impressed with Lutter.

No I don't care. Not a good excuse for me. He didn't have to fight. To me the best way to look at it is who was the best "that night." It is pointless to talk about the "if's".
