    Default UFC 72 in Ireland

"In a recent Sherdog.com interview with Jorge Gurgel, The Ultimate Fighter 2 competitor talked about two upcoming UFC events. In the video Gurgel says he will either be making his return “on June 30th at UFC Ireland”. Gurgel continues saying “maybe that could change to the July 7th card”.

Dissecting this it looks like UFC will be holding UFC 72 on June 30th in Ireland and will likely have a UFC Fight Night event on July 7th in Las Vegas. UFC 72 will be a pay-per-view event while Fight Night would likely be free on Spike TV. This is all personal speculation based on the information in the video that says the July 7th event will be free in Brazil.

The UFC has previously announced plans for further UFC events abroad this year so the timetable and location make sense logistics wise. MMAWeekly.com currently has the UFC 72 event listed as a July 7th date but it is “subject to change” so these newly announced details likely clarify this date to June 30th.

Currently rumors have the card for UFC 72 looking like this:

    Anderson Silva vs. Nate Marquardt
    Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca
    Jorge Gurgel (?) vs. TBD"

So what's everyone think? Think it's gonna happen?

Hmm...would be cool but no, I don't think it will happen. At least not yet and for a while. The UFC will stay here as long as they are raking the money into the contractor trash bags and burning the piles just because they can. I see another functioning type of company like a UFC Europe (or fill in the blank with whatever country makes you happy) or something like that, before I see Dana and co. makin the flight.

According to most rumors UFC is aiming at 4 europe UFC events this year so this would put them halfway there. I would not be surprised if eventually we get UFC Europe but right now they just have offices there to support all of these upcoming events in various countries.

Right but see the key words here are "aiming" and "hopes". I'm sure Dana hopes for a lot of things but that doesn't mean it will happen soon or ever.

There's a link to the Sherdog interview in the original post. I don't know the Dana White "4 Europe" events one off hand but I could did it up if that's the one you're looking for.

It has not been announced yet. The only point of reference we have is the Gurgel interview.

BTW I watched in one interview on sherdog Dana saying there will be 4 interviews this year for the UK. I then read shorthly afterwards somewhere think it was ufcjunkie that there will be an event held in Ireland but date unknown. I then watched another interview of dana on america tv program that 5 shows for UK so i'm guessing myself that the extra show is for ireland? Fingers crossed hopefully

I've done a bit more research and everything I can turn up seems to point towards June 30th being a fight night in Ireland and July 7th being UFC 72 in Las Vegas headlined by Nate Marquardt vs. Anderson Silva as well as Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans

At the bottom notes of an article mostly about Dana White talking about boxing there is this note about MacDonald fighting in UFC 72 in Ireland (hopefully not too soon after the beating he got from Franklin):

"NOTES: It appears Canadian Jason MacDonald's next UFC opponent will be Rory Singer, an alumnus of The Ultimate Fighter reality TV show. The middleweight from Red Deer, Alta., has confirmed he will fight at UFC 72: Victory on June 16 in Belfast. Singer says in an Internet posting that he will be the Canadian's opponent. . . ."

So far the UFC only shows Franklin/Kampmann but the date is the same: UFC® : Ultimate Fighting Championship®
