Default The biggest "What if..."

What single change in a single match do you think would have the biggest impact on how the UFC is today?

The biggest one I can think of is What if Royce had of beaten Matt Hughes. Matt's entire reign would have been cut short, which would reshape the WW division a bit, and the Gracies probably would have more involvement with the UFC. Gracie Jiu Jitsu would probably be more popular in the UFC, and Royce may have ended up fighting either GSP or BJ Penn.

If Sanchez had beat CroCop. Many a nuthugger would have killed themselves. And i say that in total seriousness. Or maybe if Royce had lost his first fight at UFC 1. There might not even be MMA today.

What if Ken Shamrock had won his last two fights against Tito?

Shamrock vs. Liddell perhaps?

What if.... Chuck lost his second match against Randy? I think that would have changed the UFC the most. Randy would not have retired and who knows how long he would have kept the belt for? Would Chuck have moved up to heavy weight already? I personally think this would have been one of the most dramatic what if's.... (though personally I'm glad Randy lost as it lead to his temporary retirement and his glorious comeback victory over Sylvia! One of my most favourite and enjoyable fights EVER!)

What if TUF season 1 bombed and nobody watched it.

EDIT: Not sure if this would be bad or not.

What if Royce got knocked out in the first seconds of UFC 1 against Art Jimmerson?

How about Horn beating Chuck for the second time at UFC 54?

(randy said either win or lose he was retiring after his third fight with chuck, however if he beat him a second time who knows....)

i think the biggest impact would be from royce not winning the first ufc, like if he took a lucky punch and went down in his first fight.... a lot of people got inspired by royce, a lot more than if ken just went and beat everyone up.

What if Dana had taken Tyson seriously and allowed him some fights in THe Octagon?

Even though he is champ now what if Georges St. Pierre would have held on for that 1 second until the bell rang against Hughes? He'd still be undefeated!

How about away from the ring, what if Mir never got in that motorcycle accident. I have SO much respect for him coming back from that but he was one of the most exciting fighters and now I pray he can just get a decision win in his fights!

One defeat especially early on would not have had much impact on Royce's career, if any at all.

I don't know about that. I don't think it would have had such a huge impact.

Royce or Rickson or someone else would have surely come back at UFC 2 and won. And I'm sure the UFC's would have continued even though someone else would have won. Which would have led to the inevitable evolution of MMA.

I think TUF has been big, and putting that show together either earlier or later would have had a big impact. But I think TUF happening and MMA blowing up was also inevitable. Kudos to UFC for making it happen when they did though.

What if Wanderlei had beat Tito Ortiz back in the days and had become the UFC Champion and posterboy instead of Ortiz... Maybe he would been fighting for UFC today... and then maybe... maybe we could see Chuck vs Wanderlei.
