Good points on here. Especially the household name part. My mom knows De La Hoya, but up until like yesterday she didn't know Mayweather. She knows a BUNCH of UFC fighters since we watch it a lot.

I agree especially with Marc Ratner's comments that the two sports can co-exist. What I hope though is that MMA will not have the goons invade it like they did boxing. It's the shady characters of boxing that ruined the sport, not he boxers. The gangsters, bookies, drug dealers and thugs that invaded the sport in the early to mid 90s really fouled up the sport and will run it into the ground.

I got in to UFC a few years ago through boxing.
I got a bit pissed with boxing for various reasons and was looking for something else, I found UFC and have not loioked back.
I still watch the big fights in boxing although nowadays they are fewer and further between.
