Let's see. The question was directed at Fightinblind but since you asked...the reason for my question was because he acted as if it really doesn't matter what you let your kids watch because bad language is in other places too.

Soooooooo, I wanted to know if he is some 15 year old kid in high school making an opinion of something that he probably doesn't know much about.

And no, it's not the same. I can't control what my kids hear at school but I can make an effort to shield them at home. The other difference is that if I let them watch it at home then I am showing by my actions that I think it is ok.

You know...I'm trying to do something that many don't...be a good parent.

Ohhh... look at you.

Just because someone doesn't have kids, doesn't mean he can't have an opinion about parenting.

And you having kids doesn't make your opinion any better.
Britney Spears has kids, doesn't mean I'm gonna take parenting tips from her.

Besides, there are other options besides not letting them watch a show altogether. How about just saying "yeah, that guy that's saying 'dick' all the time... he's a bit of a dick, kids".

I dont know why you would have a kid watching anything UFC. At 10 years old? But hey, to each his own. I guess.. I agree with you Bayouboy

hey, my friend has his 10 year old kid training Jui-Jitsu and kickboxing. He also trains in wrestling. TUF was a show that he and his kid liked to watch together. The bleeping helped to tone down the language. But, saying dick every five seconds without a bleep just ended that.

Awesome post, full of information pertaining to the topic.

Back on topic though, It seems Team Serra is really pulling through as a team, not talking **** about each other or argueing with each other, maybe its becuase they are on a win streak. I'm pulling for a 7-1 sweep.

without a bleep...no one answered me - does bleeping even work? don't kids know what Dana is saying?

yet your friend is okay with watching Dana's bleeps along with a bunch of guys getting drunk and trashing stuff? absolutely to each his own.

...but you can blame Serra for ruining his special time with his kid if you want.

I remember when I was a 10 year old in 1996 50% of boys had rotten mouths. I don't think much has changed since then. It has probably gotten worse since.

I would trust the words of a 15 year old about what goes on in elementary school over an adult. He was there just 5 years ago.

I can guarantee that almost every 10 year old has heard the whole spectrum of curse words, including dick and cock.

Who gives a rats butt? It's not about what 10 year olds have or have not heard. My friend has a 10 year old kid. He also has a wife and a mother to that 10 year old kid. It's about what they want as a family. They don't care what other 10 year old kids around the country hear or don't hear. They care about controlling THEIR KID. They don't allow him to run around saying, "DICK, DICK, DICK, DICK, COCK AND HEAD, HEAD OF COCK!" And, to be honest, I don't know of any parents that allow that. Hell, I don't know what you guys are talking about with what kids hear in schools. I don't know of any school teachers or prinicpals that allow kids to run around yelling, ""DICK, DICK, DICK, DICK, COCK AND HEAD, HEAD OF COCK!"

It's because teachers and principals aren't around the kids all day long when there at school. It happens during lunch and recess.

Well, they might smoke crack at recess or lunch as well, but that does not make it okay.

They don't smoke crack at recess.

Why is it worse to hear someone say explicit words but they get to watch violent fighting?

That's a good point. But, in MMA matches (mostly) we get to see sportsmanship. Two guys fight and they hurt each other, but afterwards they shakes hands or whatever and its over. There is a lesson in that. Also, I love it when Bas Rutten says (at every IFL event) that martial arts are not for settling problems and disputes in real life. He points out that MMA is a sport and that fighting on the streets is always a bad idea. In that regard, MMA has been better with its message than say pro-wrestling (with its fake or mock violence) and movies (with violence for entertainment).

The parent could simply say, "It is not acceptable to say that word."

What I was trying to say is, it's not like he hasn't heard it before. With a little guidance, a kid won't repeat everything he or she hears.
