Default TUF 6: Episode 6

Will Team Serra keep the streak going or will Team Hughes get back on track with their big 3?

Think we'll actually have a good, competitive fight?

From the preview they showed on the PPV this fight is suppose to be real good with a surprise ending...hopefully it'll be a good one, we are overdue for a great fight!

Yeah the previews always make the show look real good, but then when I watch the show the previews make a big deal out of what usually ends up being nothing exciting.

The fights will get better in the next round, I'm not worried about it yet.

Barrera is a friggin crazy man, I love his intense style... hopefully his hand wont bother him in the fight.

Seriously now. As Dana said that was the worst judging beside Bisping-Hammill i've ever seen.

Wow, that was surprising....I thought Barrera was one of the better fighters...I guess not.

Ben looks like a really good fighter! I saw he had a draw with Crafton Wallace and has beat former TUFer Kenny Stevens.

I thought that Barrera won the 1st round and Saunders won the 2nd round as well but Ben did get some good shots in that 1st round and Barrera was just target practice for Saunders in the 2nd round!

Great fight!

I thought sure it was going to a third until I looked down and saw like 3 minutes until the end of the hour. Anybody else think Ben could have got a 10-8 for that last round? He completely dominated. I do think I would have given each a round though.

Dan's best bet was just to punch inside. He couldn't take him down and was getting beaten with the kicks from the outside. Why don't these guys listen to their coaches. The whole team was telling him to let him up. Instead there was that weird standing in the middle doing nothing.

I did kind of enjoy seeing just how dominate a guy like Hughes or Serra would be even against a guy that makes it onto TUF.

Barrera didn't do jack except land that one big haymaker. I thought it was a draw, but I could see how you could score round 1 for Saunders. He was more active, he almost had a submission locked on, and he controlled the octagon. Again, I thought it was a draw after 2, but I could see how you could score both rounds for Saunders.

I don't think it made much difference in the end, Barrera wouldn't have made it out of round 3 if they had let it continue.

Yeah these last 2 fighters have to listen to Hughes' gameplans. I mean Barrera was at his breaking point before that fight, his wife flipping out and all, his head wasnt there. He needs to work on some Muay Thai big time. There should have been a third round, Although in all likelyhood it would have turned out the same. Or worse.

I can not stomach Hughes...

"..he wasnt listening to anything i said"

"stop that"
"hit him in the face"
"dont go there"
"watch the low blows"
"get outta there"

Then...

"you have to be following the game plan and doing what is told"

What the hell is he talking about?

IMHO, if Berrara was in Serras corner, he would have won. Serra always seems to come up with a great gameplan for all of his fighters. Hughes on the other hand states the obvious...hit him in the face! dont let him hit you!

Great fight...terrible judging...and I cant wait to see Barrera in the UFC....

EDIT: I do however forgot to mention the one thing...Hughes did tell Barrera to let him up...but so did the whole team so I wasn't including that part...

Yeah, I hate that...knowing how much time is left in the show.

I don't know why they don't listen to the coaches but it seems to happen a lot. When you're in a fight, it is difficult to listen and act upon it. However, during the break, it would be nice to absorb some of the info from someone with a great deal of knowledge.

Agreed...Hughes working over Barrera was good to see.

That happens b/c Hughes brings some of this on himself by his actions.
____________

What's up with Herb Dean? The more I see him in the cage, the more I want to see Big John. Stand those guys up...way too much time wasted. Yes, Barrera should've backed off but it was evident he was content to just stand there - that's where the ref has to step in in a timely manner.

WTF was that all about with Herb waving his arms as if the fight's over???? Then asking Barrera if he still wants to fight.

That said, I would liked to have seen a third round and I certainly don't blame Hughes for confronting the dude about the judging.

I said it before the show and it's playing out... Serra is outcoaching Hughes. Serra has been teaching for years, Hughes seems to basically "coach" through bullying and intimidation. He's only there for himself, listen to him talk about how "he has to win" all the time. It isn't about the team it's about making himself look good. Beating on guys isn't coaching them. Hell, remember the first time he was on there and his strategy picking the teams was to take the best guys and not try and take guys who needed to be coached? That should tell you plenty about what kind of coach he is.

Great fighter, can't stand him, but still a hell of a fighter. So far he's sucked as a coach. I can't stand Ortiz either, but that dude can coach his ass off.

I think it should've gone to a third round.

That being said, I think Ben would've taken round 3 and still gotten the win.

Game plans are not formulated during the fight. And if you see serious flaw in the other fighter, you don't yell it out during the round so the other guy can hear it. You wait in between rounds and you give him more specific instructions then.

What you wanted do during the round is be in another voice inside the fighters head to keep them focused. Instincts tend to take over right away, and you stray from focus and concentration. Those little seemingly insignificant and obvious things cornermen always say are all an attempt to re-focus their fighter (just to remind them that they don't want to be in the clinch, they want to watch out for those knees etc. etc.)

I have absolutely no idea how this happened, but you seem to a forgotten all of the times Serra has done it! I specifically remember his favorite phrase being "you know what we do here." He says that because they don't want him to know what he is going to do that they talked about before the fight

edit: I might have to agree that he could have won if Serra was in his corner. If I were to hear one command in that annoying accent, I would do it lickety split so I would never have to hear him say that again

back to the show... I agree that there should have been a third-round. As I looked up to my clock and saw there was little time left, I thought either if it did go into the third it wasn't going to last very long, or two of the judges scored the third round 10-8. Never thought to them would score the first round so poorly.

I wasn't impressed with Barrera at all. But I do see a lot of potential. He has great heart and a great work ethic. I am not religious at all but I am glad that his faith in God to get him through that tough few days. I also loved how ecstatic Serra got when he heard that his hand was broken. A true sportsman right there And if anyone wants to say how bad it was for Hughes' to get so aggressive with Barrera and "cause him" an injury, save your fingers from getting a step closer to carpal tunnel, you are just wrong.
