TUF 6: Episode 8
Team Serra won another last week - shocker. I think that brings the total to 15 for Serra, 1 for Hughes.
We know the matchup for this one:
Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver or as I call him - "The Alternate"
v.
Tommy Speer ... does he have a nickname? "Redhead"? "Farmboy"?
Hughes said Tommy reminds him of himself so we'll see if Tommy pouts and scolds his team this week.
The Hughes team is so ridiculously due so I'm thinking Tommy by GnP.
I just hope to see a good fight and seeing Tommy's bloody face in the show's opening leads me to believe this could be a good one.

something is up for the next episode. Something is definately up. I wonder what Dana has planned?
Oh, I told you that Serra would try to put both Hughes guys against each other.

It did look like his hand started to tap - it was very close but great job by him surviving.
Tommy's tough but like it's been said, he's pretty raw.

seriously!
__________
Dana did say Serra could pick the fights so why wouldn't he be able to match up the Hughes teammates? In the preview, it looked like maybe DW wasn't too F'n thrilled with that idea - but who knows.

Tommy has heart, his gnp was very inneffective, Jons defense was decent but he got banged up and was out of it. But the best thing was hearing Serra say "war" 100 times in one minute.

What was Serras guy sobbing about during the pre-fight interview? He was rambling on about something about his dad dying etc.
I dont know cause I couldnt understand his blubbering whether he didnt care that his dad died or what?
Just WTF was he crying about.
Good fight though.

From 13 on he had no parents. Apparently when he was 13 his dad died pretty much right in front of him. He tried to give him cpr... then I guess he was taken to the hospital where he later died. I guess the stress of the fight and being on the show got to him and brought back bad memories.
Anyway onto the fight. I can't believe Tommy did not finish that fight. He had mount for at least 4 minutes of that fight and he couldn't finish it. He is very raw and needs a lot of work on his ground and pound. I was also surprised that War Machine couldn't finish with both hooks in and a pretty deep choke it looked like.

You guys see the size of the lump between Tommy's eyes ? Wow ! Decent fight. I laughed when Sera was doing his Hughes impression. A little childish , but entertaining to say the least.

All I have to say is someone needs to teach Speer how to punch. Didn't it look as if there were no power behind the punches he was throwing? It appeared to be very ineffective. It looked like he was only drawing his arm back half way.
All that power he has could be put to better use.

Tommy's GNP was terrible. I thought it was going to a third round. Maybe it's just me, but splitting a guy open and having his back with a near submission for 2:30 of a round is doing more to win the fight than weak GNP. I could certainly see how you could score it for Tommy, I'm just surprised that all 3 judges had it 20-18. On the whole though I don't think it mattered too much since Warmachine was spent.
Tommy looked good in the second round, he just needs some work. Raw, powerful, but not really ready for prime time right now.
Looks like Serra is going to do the smart thing and pair Tommy and Mac in the quarterfinals, no reason not to.

Agreed. So what's the "difficult choice" that Serra has to make?

Either who to corner in the other 3 fights or Dana is doing a sitcheroo to bring 1 of Serra's guys to Matt's team.
I think it's who to corner though, hence something a coin flip could decide.

If you could set up the fights - who would you choose?
Mac v. Tommy would be one
Wonder who Hightower will get...hope it's not Mac (someone mentioned the editing foreshadowing factor earlier in the season)
