I understand what you're saying but i think you forget that a lot of times it isn't about the weightclass you're fighting in. I can't begin to count the number of TUF fighters that have changed weight classes after the show. For a guy like Matt Serra, yea, a guaranteed title shot against Matt Hughes or GSP would be great. But i guarantee he's must more inmterested in the 100k cash, the 100k xyience sponsorship and most importantly the avdertisement for himself as a figher and his business running BJJ schools. I live on LI and i've seen a few commercials for his facilities. Before the show i had already seriously considered going there, but after seeing the show, now that i know his personality, his work ethic and his dedication to a cohesive team based unit, once i can, i will definitely be going there to train.

To me its nothing about the format of the show, it just means 16 more low tier-mid level fighters seep into the UFC and have pushed seasoned warriors -- Serra, Cote, Rivera -- out of the UFC and now they're all stuck in the same damn reality show debacle. Dana just wants to showcase his cuute liiiittle made for TV 'starz'. We have PPVs and UFNs now, we dont need another TV show to assimilate more mediocre fighters into the UFC -- we sure as hell don't if it's gonna have my boyz Jen and BJ as the coaches next season. I'll be crying in the bathtub wearing floaties and drinking cheap wine.

Yeah i agree. It's like a beefed up version of the real world. You see them have the drama and instead of it just ending they get to fight and the loser has to go home instead of the other way around.

I think bringing to vets for a 2nd chance was pretty cool but they too do someting to spice it up. Take away the whole team concept for one. Make the stage things not seem so staged or better yet not stage things at all. Like the person who started this thread said give us an episdoe just about the bio's of the fighters. Do like the contender did too and make the fights like open to the public I thought that was really cool. Other than that i dont know just livin it up a little.

TUF is for teens and ladies as well as guys, just like the other shows are. TUF just puts on a macho front but still wants to attract the teens and ladies who love them some reality shows.

And again the only reason I complain is because I'm just tired of reality shows in general. And TUF is not different at all.
If I want 'reality', I'll tune into CNN or FoxNews. If I want to see two guys fighting, I look for a fight show. BTW, I'm new to spectating in this sport so I have a limited knowledge of what's out there, but I was wondering: are there any female MMA matches anywhere? Just curious.

true they need to switch things up on tuf how about letting these guys out of the house thats much more realistic then locking them up for 6wks also maybe a tuf with all newcomers to the sport just make sure you don't pick a bunch of sissies who can't take being hit in the face

I believe thay have signed a contract with SpikeTV to take the show to a seventh season (maybe someone can verify that for me), but the truth of the matter is, 75% of the show is getting boring. I think when it comes down to it, the majority of MMA fans want two things. To know each fighter before the fight, and to see a good fight. So when they house all the fighters in the same dorm-style house and make some obviously staged antics between the fighters (sometimes, I'll admit, they're funny, but that's not what I'm tuning in for), I feel the show loses some credibility.

Let's face it, TUF is in a unique position here. They have the potential to be the only true reality show on television, but instead (and I'm going to get bombarded for saying this), they've borrowed a page from the book of America's Next Top Model. People tune into the aformentioned show because they enjoy the side effects of putting a bunch of young woman on ego trips in a house and watch the hilarity ensue. People tune into TUF to learn about each fighter, form their own opinion about who is a better fighter, and watch them prove or disprove their opinion.

I was going to leave the ratings out of this post because they have nothing to do with my opinion, but when you have professional fighters on the show like Rich, Matt, GSP and Chuck, and the ratings continue to plummet, something's amiss.

And then there's the whole timing issue. One thing I love about MMA is the uncertainty of what's going to heppen next. Pure domenience of a round can be countered in a millisecond with a smart submission or a surprising knock out. When a fight begins at the half way mark of the show, you know that it's going past the first round, and although I enjoy watching it for the sake of a good fight, some of that uncertainty is lost.

So how can they make it better? Here's one suggestion:

- Same fighter format 16 fighters, two weight classes (definetly a strong point of the current show).
- Each figher submits their own bio to the show previous to picking them, in the form of a video, showing their training from their home town.
- The fight bracket for each class is predetermined
- The first show it dedicated to introducing each fighter, showing clips from their home-made videos, and show the first matchups. No fights on the first night.
- Each show afterwards will show how the fighters have trained for the upcoming fight with their own coaches. 10 min. dedicated for each fighter.
- Then the fight. Any time afterwards can be used to preview the next fight.

Aside:
- Get rid of the house. Instead each fighter stays in a hotel with their own coach(s).
- Use multiple gyms / multiple camera crews.
- Abolish any staged comedy from show.

I think something along these lines would make for a true reality show and more exciting to watch in it's entirity.
You'd better not do a financial audit on the show. You'll fail the argument miserably on all points.

They should do a TUF prison show, the winner gets parole and a ufc contract,.,,

Take 16 prisons, and have a pre-tournament in each one, with the winner from each moving into the show.

Who wouldn't want to watch that.... and i would assume they would find just as much talent there as they would anywhere else.

Show alot more of their training, explain what they're doing etc. Lots of people go to the gym, they can watch at home and say 'I can bench press more, I could be and ultimate fighter', or just watch to learn how to train. I know the serious fans want to see training techniques, but casual fans probably do too

they should let them out of the house..its a reality show isnt it..i no people in the real world who train dont frikken stay in the house for two months before the fight..or maybe it would be to expensive having all those camera men per 1 fighter..

I don't like TUF. Season 1 was cool because it was a show about something that I like, I didn't see it lasting past a first season. I underestimated the appeal of the sport to the mainstream or I underestimated the appeal of its "Reality Format" to women between the ages of 20-40.

Really I don't think anyone who qualifies on that show deserves a shot in the UFC and a contract worth that much. UFC should have a Child League that might be considered a cut above amateur where these guys can build records on fighters like themselves and build up to the UFC. When you throw these guys (and especially the losers of the show) into the ring with guys we've been following for years and are just waiting to see in the top 3 get derailed by some guy who won a reality show it really disconnects the longtime MMA fans and SUPPORTERS from the sport. I hear the arguement that if a guy from TUF wins against someone who was already in the UFC they lost their spot legitimately, sure, but without the reality show that guy would never be there in the first place.

Now before I get flamed for hating all TUF winners and loosers. I like some of the guys who have come out of that show but I would have had the chance to like them regardless of the reality show because they would have made it anyways. Guys like Diego Sanchez, Mike Swick and others would still be on my favorite fighter lists regardless of the existance of some silly reality show.

I like the idea of rejuvinating more seasoned fighters by allowing the fans to get to know them a bit more and when it was that format the drama was toned down and the general quality of the show improved.

I think after this season (the lightweights) they need to end it. I think they've gotten all they can out of the series, but theres only so many good fighters out there to vie for a contract. We now know their doing a season 6 but c'mon, ufc. After that it really needs to end. If diego and kos are the coaches it would work out good too because it would be like the series has come full circle and now can end.
