Portable systems
Now that I'm working full time and the money's rolling in, I'm thinking of treating myself to a portable game unit. Aside from being cheaper, would anyone like to make a case for buying the DS over the PSP?
Any input either way is welcome.

Don't know what to tell you. I shopped for both for my son and on the advice of the salesperson bought the psp because the graphics were better and the ability to increase its memory and use it like a mp3 player. Of course my wife bought the DS a week later because there was some game that he HAD to have. He seems to like the DS better because of the wifi link that lets him play with his friends on their DS's.

ds is more for young kids, but im not saying a teenager or adult wouldn't have fun with it, but psp has a lot more for older people but haven't brought out many games. i have a psp but i wouldn't recommend it really

I'd definitely choose DS over PSP. For one, the games are a lot more diverse and creative, due mainly to the touch screen. Pretty much all my friends have a DS. My only friend who had a PSP sold it because he never used it and he hated the analog stick on it. PSP will have some nice titles like GTA and whatnot, but DS has such a variety of games that appeal to everyone in addition to their big name titles. It's classic Nintendo. **** the rules and lets just make some **** that's crazy fun.!

Yeah, I think I might be leaning toward the DS. I haven't been a Nintendo guy since the original NES, but I do believe that they've been very smart to just focus on what makes games fun and addictive over trying to a) Push the limit of graphics capabilities, and b) Build their systems with the widest variety of non-gaming uses possible. The Gamecube was a really solid system, the Wii is kicking butt, and maybe at the end of the day I'd spend more time with Mario Kart than Socom.
I'm gonna have to do some research to see what titles are out and what the future looks like for each system. I've already heard that the smaller DS-Lite is considered a huge improvement while being cheaper, too -- so that's cool.

tekken is the only good game, socom imo is terrible on psp. i love fight night and that isn't even good on psp. ya it has internet and and mp3 player, but just buy an mp3 player for way less, and you have to have a wireless router to use the internet.

I say if you want some good fun with mario and other great games go with DS, because its really fun but you might like kind of funny blowing and talking to your DS in some cases. If you wanna go with the trend go with DS since its outselling all systems together.
PSP is good because of music, online, and great graphics. I would recommend this because of GTA, though the games have come out on PS2, they look much better on the PSP, also there is still good games to come out on the PSP.
Don't listen the guy who said "tekken got 9/10 on most all sites" or something like that, because its up to you on what Franchises you want, either Nintendo or PS. I say both systems are worth to buy and very good systems.

if you want it to play video game by the ds, if you want an mp3 player that has better graphics and like 2 good games go with psp.
i bought psp when it was "the next big thing" and i wish i didn't because i have damaged it a bit now and i can't return it. it's not to bad and ive had some fun with it, but i say you should go for the ds

if you want a mature game on ds, i think they brought out resident evil one on it, and those games are always mature.

I haven't played that game but i didn't say it doesn't deserve a 9/10 because I do like the franchise because im a big fan of Tekken and I got most of the Tekken games for PS1 and PS2, but i was just saying not to listen to you because it depends on what games Sitinspin likes.
Anyways what does it matter that if they are rated M or T, Mario is one of the best games out there and sometimes i rather play that than any game out there.Yes rated M and T games can be more fun because its less limited on things but a game or console shouldn't be judged by its ESRB rating. Also another game that might make you buy the PSP, is GOD of WAR that will soon come out on the PSP.

As per our discussion in the training section, I think I'm spending this money on membership at a fight gym.
The problem here is that I prefer the DS as a system (better controls, cheaper), and I don't care about the PSP's extra features. Who wants an MP3 player that big?!? But I prefer the PSP's list of titles and its graphics, so I feel caught between the two. Yeah -- better to spend the money on fight training.

I always had a gameboy, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, but never one of the new ones. They just don't cut it for me really. The PSP I know has alot of titles that look great but the gameplay butchers it for me. The DS does not have many games of interest to me. If I had to choose it would be the DS since it is cheaper and games like Mario Kart are still really good.
Why the hell Sony only put ONE analog stick on the psp is beyond me, there have always been two for so long and just seems like a huge creative flaw to me. If the next gen handhelds came out anytime soon I would look into them, since then I know Sony would HAVE to toss in another analog. That alone would make it so much better since gameplay is much better.

It all depends on what kind of games you like and what game series you like.
For stuff like Mario / Dogz (an expensive tamagotchi) / Pokemon buy a DS
For stuff like GTA / Tekken / Tony Hawks buy a PSP.
Also if you own / are planning on buying a PS3, PSP could be the better option because you can link it upto the console itself.
People are complaining about the PSP analog stick yet it just takes time to get used to, just like when first bought a ps2 and the controls had analog sticks and then sixaxis, etc. Its not to bad after a week or 2 of playing just like anything. Go play the portable systems elsewhere and see which you like before you buy 1. Or save your money and buy a PS3 / WII / XBOX 360.
