I also just found this quote, which I think is very interesting:

The footage shown from the UFC game featured ultra realistic physics and near photographic quality character rendering. THQ execs were quick to point out that the reel did not, however, represent actual game play but more or less represented the benchmark they hope to achieve.

Putting that disappointing fact aside for a moment, the footage was incredible and definitely looked like the aim was to capture the versatility of the various fighting styles that are prevalent in UFC. Now all that THQ needs to do is prove their programmers are up to the task of converting what is essentially a piece of computer animation into a living breathing game with challenging AI and genuine playability.

'UFC' to get Next Generation Video Game from THQ

Have they come out with a solid release date yet? It's been so many years since there was a UFC game! (the first one was horrible anyways) I trust THQ though and cannot wait for the game to come out.

I don't think they have, however I think their trying to shoot for the end of
'08. At least that is what I heard. But with no more information about it as of yet, I wouldn't doubt if it wasn't out until sometime in '09.

I just hope they release a PC version and not just console.

The initial press release said they were shooting for a release on every major console and portable, plus PC. I agree -- it would be amazing to have it out for PC. Especially since Microsoft is now releasing games that allow PC players and Xbox Live players to play with each other.

That is AWESOME... i am stoked they are doing that. Plus on the bright side of the PC game... If you are a computer nerd like me you can hack the game and change things you dont like. Wont let me play on the internet like that but whatever.

Something just dawned on me. I have to think that with Couture bailing on the UFC, he won't end up being in the new game. Man -- that dude is destined to never appear in a video game.

Yeah maybe there will be people that were in the UFC but aren't anymore, and they can be unlocked like in a lot of other games.

I don't know. I'd say this constitutes parting on bad terms. Couture will have to grant THQ rights to use him in the game, and maybe he won't be willing to do that now. Or maybe the UFC will be bitter and keep him out.

I think there are a bunch of people who might make it in as legends, like Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie, etc. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

OMG, I can't wait to take this baby online! A cool career mode would be cool to if you can use a real fighter and not have to created one.

The UFC should have the rights to add him to a game though whatever happens. Just like the WWE have rights to virtually every past and present WWE star even if they dont like the WWE anymore like Hulk Hogan

Should, sure. Doesn't mean they do, though. It all depends on the deal that each fighter has. Barry Bonds isn't in Baseball Mogul 2008, because he has a game coming out that's already using his name and likeness, and he signed an exclusive deal. Similarly, Couture wasn't in the previous UFC games, and I don't know why. Wouldn't authorize use of his likeness? I don't know. There's really no way of knowing whether the UFC has the right to include a fighter in a video game whether he likes it or not.

Edit: If any of you are on good email / myspace terms with a top UFC guy, you might want to ask how this works.

Well, I called it. Sherdog has a video up of Randy's press conference, and he says in no uncertain terms that most of the fighters signed away their name and likeness to be used in the video game, and he wasn't willing to do it so he "had to pull out of that." No Couture in the new UFC game, as things stand. Rats.

Yeah that sucks, but there are so many new and exciting people joining the ufc that there should be plenty of other newer people to make up for him not being in it.

Well, if the UFC game has a create your own fighter feature similar to what the WWE games have then we can at least make a guy that looks like Randy and call him Randy.
