New Ufc Fighting Game In The Works!
I am SO stoked for this! But I also remain cautiously optimistic. Hopefully they are able to capture the nuances of MMA; the striking, the complex ground game and the clinch/wrestling aspect.
The one thing that is PARAMOUNT is that we don't spam submission; we don't want a button masher and they should strive to avoid that.

Nice job on the link, Newmarket. :-)
Edited to add: As for whether or not Dana was really the poster on the UG, it's tough for me to say. I got banned last year due to a totally unfortunate misunderstanding -- I made a comment in jest about Ken Shamrock's time spent training US soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, and the mods took it as disrespect toward US troops. That wasn't even close to the case, but I just took the ban and went away.
Dana definitely shows up and posts in threads from time to time, but I can't remember his screen name. Something tells me it was zuffaprez, or zuffaboss.
Do any of you still post to the UG and can confirm?

lol... well dang yo. I'm too lazy to fix the link *sigh*
Well, I have half a mind to get a job at THQ and make sure they get this game right, and make sure the ground game is excellent. I already have a bunch of ideas and of course I think my personal ideas are the best ever!

dont get too excited... no good MMA game has ever been made, and regardless of how much it improves i have a bad feeling that everyone here will find ways to bash it because the ground game isnt accurate enough.... this is SUCH a hard sport to immulate in video game form...
regardless ill buy it! : )

THQ = WWF No Mercy = The Best Wrestling Game Of All Time.
If this is indeed true, I have high hopes for the game, THQ make the best (/only?) Wrestling games on the market, if they incorporated their basic style of those games into this, it will be a winner.

I've had this discussion with some of you before, but I believe that the biggest mistake they could make is trying to make the graphics as photo-realistic as possible and the game engine as technical / sim-based as possible. Bottom line, this game needs to be fun, balanced, and have a lot of replay value. If slightly cartoonish graphics and "moves" that are pre-rendered to allow cool MMA-type stuff to happen (for example, a button combination that allows your Anderson Silva to clinch, throw three quick knees to the head, and push off) is the way to go. Same with the ground game. One button to clinch, some paper-scissors-rock factor for the takedown, and then a choice of combos to go for different subs with an opportunity for reversals / defence.
I like what THQ has done with some of their wrestling titles, and I'd also point towards Legends of Wrestling II as a good example of what I'm talking about (which isn't a THQ title).

I hear they (THQ) came up with a really good Japanese 'shooto' wrestling game where you actually shot for your opponent and such. It was in Japan only but I heard it got decent reviews. It was using the same engine as the old WWF/E games.
The things I'm most concerned with are that this game is NOT a button masher; the old MMA games made the mistake of doing this where all you'd have to do to get a submission is slam a button and wear out your thumbs. There should be a button combo for this and at the same time getting proper position. They've also gotta include side control, scarf, etc
And NO LIFE BARS! maybe a stamina bar but definitely not a life bar. There should be an equal chance for a one-punch KO as well as a 5-round war.
EDIT: We should just make a petition for THQ and tell them we're die-hard fans and this is what it should include. WE can make this game awesome if they listen to us!

All the best fighting games are both a button-masher and a technical game with long combos. That way two drunks at a party can pick it up and just kick the crap out of each other by tapping buttons randomly, and two skilled and experienced pwnerers can really challenge each other's technique. I'm hoping this game will be the same.
Fight Night Round 3 has the chance for a one-punch KO, which I think is a worthwhile element in this game, but more than anything I'd like to see them set it up so 95% of the fights don't end in the first couple of minutes, which is what my experience with Tapout 2 was like.
I'm not against power bars, because they need to account for damage done (although this can be invisible to the players). More important is managing stamina -- let's say that striking and sub attempts burn stamina, which replenishes when you're on the defensive. You can also maybe get a boost to your stamina if you pull off a big move on your opponent -- sort of like an adrenaline rush when you smell blood.

Good points SnP.
I don't know if you ever played Pride FC, but it always bugged me that getting a submission was just about who could tap the buttons the fastest; it was boring and at the same time it killed my hands. There has be another - and better - way to do things. I'm personally thinking button combinations coupled with proper positioning myself
This game also needs a ROBUST fighter Creator. We'll all want to create fighters from different organizations; it's a given. THQ should have the forsight to include a fight creator that literally lets us control every aspect. There are some great fight creators out there so this should be somewhat easy to implement. In the past their WWF/E games have been known to have great customization. I love that ones that let you control and morph the head and body to exactly what you want; with the next-gen of consoles here it should be easy.
The best Create-A-Player I ever saw however was in the game Top Spin for the original Xbox. I managed to make myself very very well.
It's probably wishful thinking that they will let us swap these files online, but there's always transfer kits which I'm working on getting myself for my Xbox360 anyways.

Oh yeah -- a good create-a-fighter is a must, and it's pretty much the standard these days so I'm confident it'll be good.

You know what I'm actually hoping for? That the developers open up a forum and invite us hardcore fans to post and give suggestions for the game/controls. They should also be actively engaged in said forum and telling us what they think of our ideas and if the ideas could be done. There are some developers who are good at engaged the hardcore audience (2k sports comes to mind and the involvement they have with OperationSports.com) and it always benefits the game.
We should also hope that the developers care enough about MMA to put forth the effort!
EDIT: I also want an extensive 'ring name' feature. I think I remember Acclaim's old Wrestling game have a great catch phrase feature... put something like that in!

the fights in the old ufc and pride games were over wayyyy too fast... you really had to try to avoid the guy ot make it goto a decision... all were first round KOs or subs.... id love if they could stretch this out to make the fights longer...
make NO mistake though, this game is not being made for "hardcore" fans... this game is being made for the mainstream fans that has allowed the market to explode... hopefully they can find a good medium

I assume the ps2 and pride games are similar to the ufc game for dreamcast, and I didn't mind the controls for that game, they could have been better, but they weren't bad. I wouldn't mind if they tweaked those a bit and did something to make the fights last more then one round.

THQ are just producers (I believe), it's Yukes who actually design/make the games.

Right. It's like New Line putting out the Lord of the Rings movies, but it's Peter Jackson's team who did the work.
