Owners of shops and restaurants face severe penalties for selling alcohol to minors. Dan, the bartender at The Cove Lounge and Bar, said that for the first time we were caught selling alcohol to minors. We were closed for 24 hours and had to pay a fine of US$2500, and our liquor license had to be reviewed.
Because of these severe penalties, bars and clubs have taken increasingly determined measures to ensure that minors will not escape the use of fake ID cards. Most bars (such as Cove) have bodyguard check IDs and only accept certain types of them.
