How the mighty fall...

I always kind of rooted for Tim (because noone in the world seems to). But some of his decisions are baffling.

Not really.

Pro Wrestling is NOT a step down. It's just another career path that can pay HUGE amounts of money. If he becomes a fan favorite in Japan, I guarantee you he will make $millions if his body holds up.

I wish him well.

Tim Sylvia to Compete in Japanese Pro Wrestling -- MMA Fighting

Doesn't it make more sense for Sylvia and Barnett to just have an actual MMA fight?

Is this for real?...I agree that he should just have an MMA fight. What's the point of this? I am curious as to the thinking behind this decision. Is it that he can't get a fight in MMA or is it that he doesn't want to and thinks wrestling is an easier arena. Whatever the case is I would be very interested in knowing the truth.

This is just sad and I never liked Big Tim? But I wish him luck in this.

Timmah is actually not athletic enough to cut it in pro wrestling.

Might be good for him, I don't see any real future for him in any legit HW division, so why not make some money in Japan doing some physical acting.

Just read this good article about Timmy and Japanese Pro Wrestling

For those that may be unaware, I’d like to point out that you probably won’t see Sylvia throwing suplexes and powerbombs when he steps into the ring. Japanese pro wrestling pioneered the “shootfight” style, which is basically a style that tries to make pro wrestling look as real as possible while still being staged and having predetermined results. Odds are that those kinds of pro wrestling matches will be the kind that Sylvia is involved in. Even if he’s not booked in that kind of match, nine times out of ten MMA stars trying out pro wrestling in Japan have little in the way of flashy offense other than their punches and maybe a few easy-to-learn moves they pick up in a pro wrestling crash-course.

At the end of the day, it’s quick buck both for the fighters and the pro wrestling promotions. It’s a total freak show attraction, but it’s presented as such, marketed as such, nothing at all is done to hide it, and it can actually be quite fun if you check your brain at the door and enjoy the sheer spectacle of it all. This isn’t a permanent transition, and if you think about it, it really doesn’t damage Sylvia’s career image that much. And it’s not like Tim Sylvia hasn’t competed in a freak show or two in his time.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia will try his hands at the professional wrestling game later this month in Japan and will be joined by fellow heavyweights Josh Barnett, Bobby Lashley and Bob Sapp. Barnett and Sapp both have wrestled professionally in Japan; Lashley was a pro wrestler for WWE and TNA before taking up MMA.

A source close to Sylvia's camp told MMA Fighting on Friday that a deal is in place for Sylvia to take part in two fights, with the first coming in two weeks and that first bout is likely to come against Barnett. The source also said Lashley and Sapp will compete for the same promotion.
